SUN SHADES???????????????????????

ME, novice. Do you put the sun shade on and leave it on or are there times to use it and others not?

Mine was on for years... Now it's off both rifles cause it straps down in my cases better.

Another vote for always on. When It's needed, it has been a help, and when not needed, it hasn't caused any problems for me.

As of late, I'm leaving them on but if heavy overcast or early
evening, I take them off.....I did a few tests when the mirage
got heavy. For me, besides turning the power down, having
a shade helped......One other thing to consider is the length.
I prefer a 2" shade. I found that going longer gave me a tunnel
vision effect at lower powers.

I use a rubber sunshade on the ocular, similar to the one on the SVD to cut the glare when the sun is in your eyes.

I leave my sunshades on all the time. That's for camera lenses as well as riflescopes.
- It doesn't hurt anything.
- It protects the objective lens.

The only reason most people would take one off would be on a dark/cloudy day, or early in the AM/late in the PM when light is low. If the sight picture is noticeably dark to your eye, removing the sunshade will brighten it up a bit. If the sight picture doesn't appear dark to your eye, leave the sunshade on.
