Summer fun

Quick, shoot before it gets hot said the two on lookers. 85 at 6am this morning. Only took 25 rounds with me. Shot 5 sighters/ foulers then the first 10. Took the first three shots before I got the nerve to reach up and give it one more click. I already had 2.5 moa right on it. Trying to space the shots 45 seconds apart. Barrel got real hot. Let it cool 15 minutes and shot the next 10. I have no idea where that high one came from. 6th shot in the string. I know cause I got my new Sightron 10x50 and my new cataract free eye. I could see the holes like they were 50 cal. Usually clean right there but today it's at home in the A/C. 114 today. Fun in the sun. Mike

Its amazing how hot the barrels stay on a hot day. I’ve got to where I carry a small tank of dried nitrogen with a regulator with me in a cooler of ice. I cut one end off a gauge hose and it fits well in my 6br chambers. I’m not big on sitting out in the 110 degree humid weather after working all day so I try and cool the barrel. A guy has to get his shooting fix though reguardless of weather.

Your barrel shouldn't get so hot so that you can't hold onto it, if you are trying to maximize barrel life, particularly at 32 degrees, that would take a fair amount of shooting in rapid succession. Heavy barrels tend to heat up slower too. Shoot a 3 or 5 shot group, or two, or three, then let it cool, repeat. Clean periodically when accuracy starts to deteriorate. Don't keep banging away until the barrel is hot to the touch, (unless you're in a prairie dog town and when she starts to get warm, grab a different rifle. My humble opinions.
