Suggestions for DBM that is flush fitting

I have a Shilen DGR long action (700 foot print) chambered in 243. I'm looking to find a DBM set up that is flush fitting to the stock and not the tactical type that hangs way down. About the only thing i have seen is the H&S. Wondering if there are any more options out there I'm not seeing.

Take a look at these: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Kwik-Klip-Remington174-Model-700-Clip-Conversion-Kit/741478.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dkwik%2Bklip%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts%26x%3D12%26y%3D9&Ntt=kwik+klip&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
I have one on a 25-06 and it works well. They are single stack design. I recently modified the mag on a short action model to feed 6 Dasher cartridges. I very much like the convenience of a detachable mag on a hunting rifle. Like yourself, I do not like the mag hanging out the bottom a bunch.

Timeout,

That looks eerily like the HS set up to me....BUT at a better price.

On a side note, how does your Dasher feed???

Was is difficult to make it work???

Sorrry for de-railing the post.

Phil.

Phil,
No problem im interested in seeing how the dasher feed also. I wouldnt mind a 6br or dasher in a repeater for hunting varmits

I agree does look alot like a HS and at that price i ordered one up to find out how it works. Mostly good reviews at cabealas.

H-S, but for those using a short action be aware that the mag length it much shorter than you can get going with something that uses AICS mags.

I went with an H-S on my 7-08, but i got my reamer is set up to allow me to seat 162s, so loaded to mag length everything is jumping way to far. OK for hunting, but I'm about to break down and get an AICS compatible bottom metal that will let me run Accurate or Alpha mags and seat out to 2.9 or so. I don't like the tactical look for my hunting rifle but in the end for me anyway; it's about how it shoots, not how it looks.

The Kwik Klip mag will hold 3 Dasher Cartridges. I have not reached a point yet where it will feed with 3 in the Mag. I may or may not work on that down the road. The mag feeds perfect with 2 cartridges, making the rifle a 3 shot bolt action. IMHO if a person has not harvested the animal in 3 shots from a bolt action, may as well forget about it. The old saying is that anything after the first shot is just noise. Not entirely true, but close. I used Delrin to modify the mag. I have a 1/4" Delrin bottom, a /1/4" Delrin spacer in the rear that shortens the box and about an 1/8" spacer in the front of the box that lifts the cartridge upward as the bolt pushes the cartridge forward. I also replaced the KK mag box spring with a standard 308 Remington spring. Wyatt Outdoors makes a mag box for BR's, however the only way I have made these work is with a rear spacer obtained from a .223 mag box. These also will only accomodate 2 cartridges. IMO, they are a PITA to load the two cartridges into. As a side note, the box will accomodate 105 Berger VLD's for length. Length could be increased or decreased depending on the thickness of the rear spacer you make for the mag box.

Im going to try one on the 243/338-06 switch barrel rifle i have. Built on a long action so hopefully everything fits.

Reminds me of seeing a guys rifle in the local shop, 300 Ultra Mag with an 8 round magazine.

Our though was, if it takes 8 rounds of UM, you probably ought not be screwing with it.

That kwik klip looks like it is your only option.

Just because you have 8 rds does not mean you will shoot them all. I have two 10rd mags for my 300WM and they are what I use hunting. I feel better having the extra than with out. When I use my semi 308 I bring three mags with me for a total of 60rds.

My reason for getting the DBM was quite simply the ease of unloading. After I watched my hunting buddy drop the mag from his A bolt I knew I wanted something. My other main hunting rifle is a Highwall, capacity was not a concern, in fact I saw it as a negative. My HS holds 4, I'd have been happy with two or three.

Before I'm finished I'll build a highwall or a Ruger #1 in 30-40 or 7-08 and I won't care one way or the other.

Since you have a long action, you will be fine with the kwik clip magazine even if you shoot 115 vlds. That's the beauty of building a short action caliber on a long action.
