Successful 'Goat' hunt

TheBlueEyedBear

'The Nut Behind The Trigger'
My shooting buddy and I went down to White Sulphur Springs, MT for our Antelope hunt this year. It was pretty ugly and rainy the first day we got there but the next day cleared up nicely. 50 degrees, partly sunny, and hardly any wind. Can you imagine that,,, hardly any wind. Tom got his first, around 2:30p and I got mine about a half hour later.
My main concern with this entire adventure was the use of my new Barrett BORS system. After finishing up my load developement and final loading of the 180gr Bergers, I connected my BORS unit to my PC and went to start the Barrett software. That's when I realized I had not loaded it on my new PC. So I went to install it and found that I had lost the DVD. I called Barrett and talked to a really nice lady who said she would check to see if I could download it. Nope, they were not setup for that. So she said she would send it out NEXTDAY Air (I'm leaving to go hunting in three days). Next day, there the FedEx lady at my door with the software. AND, NO CHARGE to the idiot who lost his software. WOW, that's what I call customer service. I know; it only costs 2 cents for a blank DVD, and only takes 2 minutes to burn, but I can't think of any other customer service who performs like that. I am impressed!! After finally loading the software I got my bullet info loaded in the program and then downloaded to the BORS. I was still somewhat sceptical as I had not used the unit yet. When it came time to shoot that little speed-goat I dialed up the distance in the BORS window and pulled the trigger. WHAP! Just right on the money!! Again, I am impressed. Another product that really works as advertised.
Best wishes for a successful hunt for you hunters out there; and, stay SAFE!

Do you have to put the BORS in 4 wheel drive to turn the NF turrets, lol? I had a Leupold and you could whiz through clicks, but my NF are a bit of work. Just wondering how fast that thing works.

Neat system, it's a good thing it worked for ya.

I kinda wonder how I ever harvested with a 700 in 30-06 an a weaver K4?? :o

Derek,
I used the 180gr Hybrid this time, but, I will be changing to the 180gr HUNTING VLD next time around. While having the meat processed, the bullet fell out of the inside of the meat. Upon impact the bullet started to peal the jacket off, bottom first. The jacket came up approximately 1/4 inch and really did some damage on the inside of the Antelope. I wanted to bring it home and take pictures, but someone picked it up and made off with it. I don't feel safe using the Hybrid on animals again. But with the accuracy, and ease of tuning, I may have to reconsider.
Some of the organs made it OK, but then somebody turned on the blender.

As far as the elevation knob; it is a little on the stiff side, but not really a problem. My preference is to have them a little stiff, but, not where you have to use a pipe-wrench to turn the thing. :)
