Subsonic Load Data

I don't think it's a easy proposition for such a huge case to produce subs. Not to mention the very slow twist 50bmg barrels come in.

Many have tried and failed.
I'm sure someone out there has the secret, but might not even be worth the trouble.

I'm not sure but i would guess that a heavy bullet in the 800 range would be more appropriate, with maybe trailboss ? Or 5744 ? Without data you would need a long string to pull the trigger.

Don't know of anyone who has gone that low a bullet weight and subsonic. An 850gr cast bullet, yes, but nothing jacketed I know of.

You need a fluffy and very fast burning powder. The 2 that come to mind are Trail Boss and Red Dot.

I have loaded lots of subsonic ammo in 308 Win for quiet plinking. I prefer Red Dot. I find it to burn completely and cleanly with good accuracy at these low pressure levels. It also ignites easily with standard primers and doesn't seem to be particularly position sensitive if case fill isn't 100%.

Using slow burning powders like H1000 will often lead to inconsistent powder burn and very high ES (like in the 100's).

There was a guy on Sniper's Hide who was loading 50 BMG subs and I believe he used 35 grains of Red Dot. And it was amazingly quiet.

Only way to get a 650 grain bullet subsonic is to drop it off a cliff / tall building.

:)

That's intended to be largely metaphorical for the loss of elevation you'll see in a 650 grain bullet going less than 1100 fps. I'd guess at 100 yd yer gonna lose 1-2 feet.

It's ballistically it's not really different from shooting the old BPCRs like a Sharps 50-90. I shoot 535gr bullets in my 45-70. Depending on the nose shape they take 175 to 250 MOA to get to 1000 yards.

Yes, the drop is tremendous, subs will have about 24" of drop from a 100 yard zero to 200 yards.
