Stupidity with a lucky ending

You drove 25 miles with one rifle and one load? I have taken 12 different loads for one rifle to the range with 7 other rifles and different loads. I am the fan of the running start, I want my bullets to have that jump start. If the rifle is not accurate with the jump/running start it does not make it to the range.

I used to do that too but now I am on oxygen and its all I can do to carry one rifle, large range bag, sinclair bipod, and an oxygen tank. I still have to take a breather once I get this stuff to the range from the parking lot. (About 50 yards. )

I miss the days of taking 3-5 rifles a couple pistols, and a shotgun to the range for a day. Muscular dystrophy sucks. But I fight it everyday. I am doing better than this time last year. They (docs) had me with one foot in the grave standing on a banana peal. Now I am just on the peal but no grave if I have any say.

One range had a large wagon they used for maintenance, before going to the range I would call and ask them to air the tires up. My wife totaled my P/U, as always the insurance company did not offer enough money to replace it so I purchased the P/U for salvage value. After that I started rounding up parts and decided it would take me 4 days and now I am thinking I am going into 6+. Today it is raining, I have no ideal what it would be like build the truck with Muscular dystrophy.

And then there is that party of me that has failed, it would be nice if the grandkids would call with an interest in loading up the soon to be 'back on the road P/U' with guns and ammo for a trip to the range.

I am glad everyone made it thru with minor injuries and will mend quickly I hope.

This affliction as I think of it. (Disease, disability,... whatever) really causes no pain except when I fall. I just have to pick my steps carefully. The diaphram just doesnt push the volume of air needed efficiently anymore. So that too contributes to weakness. Its been a long progression and first affected my ability to run, then jog, ride a bicycle and now walking.

I used to be able to crawl around building ships for the navy then I couldnt lay on my back and then if I had a full lunch I couldnt kneel down while bending over and then one day I passed out carrying my tool bag up a gang plank. My O2 level was 65% 20 minutes afterwards. That was the end of my working career. I was 48 years old.

Anyway, I was just giving you an insight of what its like and I did not take your remarks personally. Too many peeps get upset too easy but hell who knows one of these days we can sit down and have a drink together.

Allen I will buy you a drink anytime. Thanks OP for posting this. I went maybe 15 years never had a single reload issue of any kind. Then I lost my magic or more importantly got sloppy and careless. Still have all my digits, hearing and eyesight !

And when you chamber check, you do remove the firing pin from the bolt, right?

I point rifle in the "safest direction" *, put the safety on. With empty chamber close bolt and pull trigger to make sure safety is working. Then I chamber check some of the reloads.

* The "safest direction" is in the basement with the rifle aimed at a skid of hard wood flooring that's in a corner.
