It's weird, I've seen (and gotten) good deals at the same shop (like a 1947, pre-64 Mod 70 in .30-06 with a WAAY better bore, for just $450). I just can't fathom how they came up with that price. A NEW Mod 70 Featherweight in .270 is around $1K.
 
My Daughter owns a pawn shop, she consults GB quite a bit or other forums when considering a price for an item. No one pays full price in the end but she has to have some room to negotiate. What’s amazing is people will make a comment that a price is too low or too high but when she says are you making an offer ? They usually identify them selves as just shopping.

Buyers buy, shoppers just shop..
 
Just looked at the Winchester website, new featherweight is $1279.99-$1299.99 list. Add a new 3-9X40 for less than $400.00 and would still be $300.00 ahead. I have a model 70 westerner in 264 win mag I need to sell. I see the starting prices on gun broker with no bids like above $1900. I think I would be lucky to fetch half of that.

Sure have.

First hand example, on 10/31/98 I bought my son, a freshman in HS, a Win 70 Featherweight Classic, CRF and claw extractor, in 280Rem for $439.99. Have the receipt, Winchester "Pre-64" tag, and all paperwork in my safe.
 
sounds like bullets , powder and primers. Why sell at an increased but fair price when do as much business as before when you can triple the price and sell one every now and then and make the same money. I think this all started with that bunch of want-a-be commandos that bought Remington and ran it into the ground. I think that created just enough shortage in the market for others to take advantage.

Again, I just got a steal at this shop on a 1947 Mod 70, with a bore that wasn't the same color as the Statue of Liberty. Price just doesn't make sense even compared to other stuff at this shop.
 
What makes a 1947 model 70 whinchester with a F’ed up barrel all that great ? I dont get it, we’re they any more accurate than a new rifle ? We have beautiful weatherby MK-V s that get sold for that big number .

The Pre-64 Winchester was the one with a barrel that WASN'T f'd up. The XTR was the one that is bright verdigris colored. The Pre-64 also was sub $500, not $1995.
