Stung by a hornet today feel like a wuss

No kidding my arms are still swollen this morning doesn't hurt just puffy....They may have won the battle but im gonna win the war or however that goes. The only thing that scares me is what if im stung in the eyeball.

The worst pain I ever felt by a sting was down inside my earhole. Not real far in but it was in there it felt like I got pimp slapped by Shaqueal Oneal fullon open handed to the face for a week.

Ive read about the Asian Hornet man that thing is a beast. A couple of those and you wont be doing well.

Been there recently. Was working on deer stands on our property and when we were done, we had a great idea to remove some fence posts from an old ground blind. Started pulling up the posts and noticed a couple bees ( at least I thought they were bees) buzzing around. I think they were some sort of ground hornet, not the friendliest guys in the world... Felt one on my hand and brushed him away. Then felt one on my eyebrow right about the rim of my sunglasses. Smacked him away so hard my glasses went sailing, haha. Then felt one sting my back. Took off running to get out of that area and had another buzzing the back of head near the hole in my hat(felt him on my hair). Got him brushed away just in time to take another sting on my ribs. Got to the truck (about 50 yards away) and took another sting in the front of my shoulder. Fun day!

Get some wasp and hornet spray it works. These things were making nests in my boat, gave them a shot there gone.

I see these big suckers around from time to time...

For sure wouldn't want to get stung by one a them! Don't know for sure is that's a wasp or hornet, but its BIG and they live in a hole in the ground.
Found one nest in a grass bank, and watched three different hornets coming/going. Then I saw one coming back to nest with a payload of cicada, just as in the above pic...CRAZY!!!

edit: found a pic of a nest, the one I saw looked exactly like this excavation...

Roach powder works like a charm as well. At least for ground nests. For hanging nests I put a little gas in a Hudson sprayer and hit the nest at night. DRT

nastyfish, I'll take the wasps over the x wives ANY DAY :o

The irritation with the wasps only lasts a day or so. However the x wives take you back to court every time you throw gas on them or anything like that! :'( ;)

Was dragging brush and feeding the chipper while my brother was high in an old swamp maple thinning it out. As I was looking up to keep from getting hit on the noggin with a falling branch, I saw this big hornet's nest attached to the end of one of them falling to the ground. It hit, I got nailed a couple times as I went running and I swear they all blamed their misfortune on me. Must've sat in his old, no AC Ford pickup truck in 90 degree heat for an hour with the windows up. Like a good brother, he thought it was hilarious. From that point on, I took a GOOD look at the trees we worked on beforehand.
Those stings hurt worse than a nurse trainee's needle.

We call me Baldface Hornets around here like a bald face cow. The white marks on black bodies

Your right they love a fight and will travel to hand out an ass whupin. Pretty good at it too

That's a cicada wasp. Not a problem unless you're a cicada. Loners. White face hornets are the worst. They'll follow you a hundred yards. I know!

BTW, OP you could have went into Anti-phylatic shock or suffocated from your wind pipe swelling shut. Go to your doctor and get an epi-pen. They are a one shot deal, just jab it in your leg, or tell someone else to do it for you and you'll be fine.
I hope this helps,
Lloyd

I've been to the ER five times in my life from stings. All were yellow and black (hornet, yellow jacket and ground bees) except the last time. It was only a month ago and it was the first time I've had a reaction to the common red wasp, which I have been stung by a half dozen times over the years. I usually get stung on the hand or the leg, but this one got me in the right eyebrow. What I've been told about the allergy getting worse as I get older must be true.

I've been stung by honey bees with no reaction and a couple of years ago by some kind of ichneumon wasp in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming while on a prairie dog hunt, which thankfully I did not react to. If I have a reaction the palms of my hands or the soles of my feet (whichever is closest to the sting) will start itching within five minutes of the sting. If it's a bad reaction (depends on the size and potency of the particular bug that hits me - the 1.5" hornet was the worst, but I killed him, so he got the worst of it), I will get hives all over my body within 20 minutes.

Last month the nurse had a fit when I told her I didn't have an epi-pen at home. They gave me a prescription for one. It costs $500 and it is only good for a year. I'm gonna have to stick to my regimen of heading toward the ER as soon as I get stung. They say I may not make it if I get multiple hits by a swarm. Damn bees anyway.

I run liquid Sevin in a tank sprayer. Tyvek suit, boots, gloves, shemagh for a head covering and googles. Quite the site but man that stuff knocks them down quick! Don't mind snakes, spiders, bees, wasp but bald faced Hornets suck!!!

Yellow Jacket. Up here they are smaller till late fall, then they become carnivorous. Nasty and mean

The trip to the ER has been working, but next time it might not, and that is an all or nothing situation. Do some shopping to see if you can locate an Epi-pen cheaper. Anyphlactic shock can kill you in minutes...your own body swells and shuts off your airway. You suffocate till your heart quits. Heck of a way to go, especially if you have a $500 alternative.

I once saw the results of A-shock from a reaction to an under-the-skin birth control. Gal died right there in the arms of the Dr who had placed the control. Massive swelling, it was awful. get the pen if you puff up from stings or itch.

Mr M you make me laugh. I just pictured that outfit and all I could think of was Bill Murray and his buddies "crossing the streams" on Ghostbusters!

I think the BF hornet is much worse than a Michelan man dough boy.....

Years ago when I was still on active duty my family and some friends went down to Kingsley Lake, FL for a picnic. I was bitten on the ankle by a fire ant and had an reaction so severe that I just made it to NAS JAX as my eyes were starting to close and my lips crack. After injections of adrenalin and an antihistamine I was ok but told to carry an emergency Bite Kit with me. A hornet or wasp could have a more severe effect on me so I try to be alert and avoid any contact.

It is called a cicada killer...I'm a nerdy entomologist and have to know this shit. Cicadas are buried in warm soil for their eggs to feed on until they pupate. That's why you see them digging the holes in the soil. They will not sting you, but look like they could put a hurt on you. The worst to get stung by in my book is the bald-faced hornet.
