stuck loaded cartridge

Loaded up some .204 cartridges and took them out this afternoon. Some of the cases were snug in chamber and I stuck the last one that I chambered. I can close the bolt on the cartridge but the extractor slips past the rim so it won't extract the cartridge. The round is stuck good. The load is safe for the rifle, no problem there. I am sure now that this box of cases were fired out of another rifle I have in .204 as I have miked the empty cases shot out of either rifle and these measure the same as the cases shot out of the other gun.

Now with that long explanation, is it safe when a case is that tight in a chamber [even with a safe load] to fire it??

Not a problem as long as your POSITIVE it's not a really hot one...........
If the bolt will close on it, have at it............

Thanks. Yea it's a safe load in this gun. Was doing a new load ladder and this particular cartridge was at the safe bottom of that. In fact I had just shot 2 others with same charge that did chamber easily and they chronoed well below what I'm expecting the load to safely achieve with this component combo. I thought that it would probably be safe given the circumstances and read elsewhere the same thing you've said.

Thanks, Wyo

Mm advice is to shoot it and then push the empty out with a cleaning rod.

But you know what free advice is worth - what you paid for it.

Be sure the bolt rotates into full lock-up. A boogered extraction rim might try to hold the bolt out of full battery.

Any doubts about safety, strap the rifle down to a rest like the Lead Sled and pull the trigger with a loooong string.

Good luck, Tom
