STUCK CASE REMOVER: which is the best?

Finally got a stuck case. Seems there was one, possibly Hornady) that used the shell holder on the bottom of the press to grab the reamer gadget that screws into the stuck case, then allows the user to push up on the reloading press handle, thus removing the stuck case. Or....if there is a better method, I sure would like to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

rcbs has a stuck case remover that you drill the bottom of the brass and then thread in a puller. pretty simple after that. I stuck a 308 case the other day and had to get someone to show me how. not any more. i will take care of them myself now. RG

If you don't have a "stuck case remover", get one! Sooner or later you'll need it again! While you're waiting for the "stuck case remover" to arrive, stick the die in the freezer.
Might give you a chance to get the case out of the die. HTH.

Pretty simple to drill out the case head and tap with a 1/4x24 tap and thread in a 1/4x24 bolt over a washer and unscrew it from the die while it's in the press upside down....

I tried the Hornady in-the-press method, plus the hammer-pound method with the Forster. Both worked nicely, but only after I had frozen the dies in the freezer for 45 minutes. The drop in temperature causes the metals to shrink away from each other. I had an old .223 case stuck in a die and had not been able to remove it for years, then got a case stuck in another forming die, so I had two stuck cases with which to compare each method. I was given a tip by a long-time reloader: When forming a smaller neck,i.e., a .20 from a .22) do NOT use anything except Imperial Die Wax for forming. After forming the unfired cartridges in the full-length die and later fire-forming in the rifle, you can go to your favorite liquid lube, such as Hornady One-shot. I haven't read this in any books or magazine articles, but had to learn it the hard way.

I have stuck several cases with Hornady One Shot, and no longer use it. However, Hornady Unique is good; and Imperial is better.

I was going to mention the same as tenring did, that I have stuck more cases using one shot than any other. No problems ever with the Imperial die wax either....
