A good shooting mate of mine rang me this morning from his home to say that he had a .223 live round stuck in his rifle and he had tried to remove it carefully using his cleaning rod. Unfortunately the bullet was a soft point, and the rod just flattened the bullet nose.
He told me that his cases were 'pick ups' and he had full length resized them and also used a base sizing die.
Anyway I told him to remove the bolt, put the rifle muzzle down and put some crushed ice on top of the case head to try and get the brass to shrink. Guess what! After a few minutes he put the bolt back in and he extracted the live round without any problem.
He did however improve on what I told him to do by filling a .223 fired case with water, freezing it and simply put the 2 cases head stamp to head stamp with the rifle in a vertical position muzzle down.
Worth trying if the same happens to you!!!
