struggling

I'm really struggling with my present stock and cheek weld on my new 6BR, Remington SA BDL. build. I've been looking at the Choate "700 SA BDL custom stock". ( can be seen at tactical works site) Has anyone out there solved their problems with this stock? Can anyone suggest an alternate that might work equally well? I'm not into BR. More of a tactical/varmint/paper shooter. Also not interested in an "add on" cheek piece. Thanks for your input, Dale

What is your present stock and what do you need on the stock that you wish to use. I have a bobby hart stock on the same set-up and it doesn't need a cheek piece or anything else for that matter. The stock I have can be seen at stockystocks.com .

I have never used a stock that had a high enough comb for proper weld. The only way you'll be truly happy is with an adjustable cheek piece.

Thanks Jon & Zfast, The Bobby Hart looks interesting. But no mention of aluminum bedding block like the Choate. Jon, did you bed and install pillars in yours? Do you shoot off a bi-pod? The hart stock does come with the aluminum block and yes I shoot off a bi-pod,the cheekpiece is fixed but it is a straight one that fits me anyway. I like it and will leave it as is.

If tactical bent, suggest some 4" pipe insulation and a roll of 'horse wrap' in camo, and build up a cheek piece to your liking in about 5 minutes. More class than a choate. and Works

I had under my direct command six rifles with Choate stocks added as described. Each assigned to different operators. To a man they were detested and after a lengthy and cranky courtship, they were sent packing.

Now they have Hart built rifles with McMillan stocks and the honeymoon is far far far from over.

A5 types.

Hart Rifle barrels in Apulia NY built the guns for us. Our newest operator won FBI school with it and when the rangemaster walked the line, he made a point of chiding him for "cheating" by using the Hart built McMillan stocked rifle. They really shoot.

I use McMillan A4 or A5 stocks, and anschutz style too.

The other stock mentioned was bulky, heavy, not ergonomic and while it did improve the groups a bit it was so unweildly that our guys just hated them, all around. But again, that is just one team.

I have a Hart stock from Stocky's and it fits me perfect without any adjustability.

I have an AI stock that I raise the adjustment just about 1/4". But it depends on the height of your scope rings too.

I have a Bell and Carlson Tactical Medalist style 5 that is very adjustable and should be able to fit about anyone. Right now it isn't on a rifle and I'd sell it for $425 shipped if you want it. It is black with dark red webbing. Got it from Stockys. Like new condition. Rem 700 sa heavy varmint contour.

I'd say you should get something very adjustable if you are having trouble. No experience with the choate. Friend has one and says it is heavy.

Input appreciated guys ! Just got my 1st 60mm objective scope. needed taller rings to handle the 20 MOA base W/O making contact to a fat BBL. It looks like an adjustable comb is in my future. I'll check out your suggestions and proceed accordingly. Dale

The Hart stocks on "Stocky's" are available with or without the aluminum bedding block. Last I knew, the ones without the bedding block were sale priced. Personally, I would buy one without and pillar bed it.

For shooting off a bench I don't use any cheek touching. It just adds another variable. A varmint 6BR gh gun.

The Bell and Calson tactical has a very nice adjustable cheekpiece, and aluminum inner frame and bedding block and shoots, very very well
