Struggling 22wmr, or 17hmr

I have a question for you lead slinging, rifle lovers.
I had a kel-tec pmr-30 bought it when they first came out..lots of fun but lost its novelty and i sold it. But have 2 bricks of ammo
So that easy pick up a 22mag rifle
But 22mag is so crude and sloppy
If im gonna get a precision rimfire shouldnt it be a 17hmr?
Both my sons have one but dad doesnt so we have bricks of 17hmr laying around..(not box's)
I stocked up on ammo years go and it has just sat in a rubbermade container with no one shooting it up
I had purchased all that ammo before this ammo shortage and price hikes..
As i had my boys have 17s so we dont realy need another..but 17 is way more accurate the 22mag.

Ive been drooling over this for about 3yrs now..
What caliber would you pick?..is it worth the money?..or will a CZ run neck and neck..
CZ not as pretty or refined..but i could buy 3CZ's for the price of this...
What would you do?...

17 hmr no question, if you want something very slick, look for a 1517 Anschutz

For best rimfire accuracy the 22LR is better as higher quality ammo is widely available. I have fun shooting 17 at longer distances but there are always several surprises in a box.

I think you will be disappointed after spending 1700.00 on a 22WMR because it seems to be mediocre in the accuracy department. If there was match ammo available for a 22WMR, then that would be a different story.

I have a Tikka T1X in 17HMR and it is extremely accurate.

Go with the 17HMR. Overall, day and day out, it will out do the 22 Mag. I do have both, but find 99% of the time I go with one of my 17HMR's.
I enjoy my CZ 457. You would also.

Get a QUALITY 22 mag. rifle. Shoot up the on hand ammo for practice. Get Hornady 30 gr. V-Max. for serious work. I got 3/4 ' at 100 yards (no wind day) with my Anschutz, just over 1" ish with the Savage and 3/4" with a custom 1885 Highwall. Or get a Ruger Wrangler or something for the ammo on hand.

I had this dilemma....so I ended up doing both...why not..ya live once.

I would suggest the 457 variety...plenty of barrel caliber offerings, can be easily tuned by the user, aftermarket support is better than ever, and switching barrel calibers is extremely easy and painless.

For 22 mag ammo, my top choices are RWS and FEDERAL 50 gr jacketed hps.

The RWS will do 5/8" @ 100 and the FEDERAL will do 3/4" 100

I had an 1717D HB Annie, and 2 Cooper 57 LVT's all in 17 HMR. And when my CZ 457 with a Lilja 17 HMR barrel on it, out shot them, I sold them all. The short throw of the 457, easily swap-able barrels, much lower cost magazines and the ability to run them with 17 HM2's, it was a no brainer.

Sell the 2 Bricks of, .22 WMR,. Ammo !!!
Put, a Green Mtn, 18 to 20 inch, "Sporter" Barrel on, a NICE Wood Stocked, Ruger 10-22,.. Buy an after Mkt, Kidd Trigger system OR, Parts, Then put, a descent 4.5 x 14 Power Burris, "Gridded", Scope on It and, Go, HAVE, Fun !!
Used Gun, Scope, Barrel and Trigger Parts cost Me around,. $750- $ 800 and with, Mid Priced SK or, Wolf ammo, = SUB 1/2 inch at, 50 yds,. IS,. very "Doable" ! Mine's a Sage Rat's "Nightmare" to, 85 Yards !
My M-64 Mag. Anschutz, .22 WMR Rifle Shot, Okay,.. BUT,. NOT, $1700.,.."okay" ! ( Hard Pass ! ).
My Ruger, Custom .22, IS Half, the Price and,.. TWICE, the Fun !!

If it were me. 17hmr Everytime. I have a great savage with the accutrigger and it shoots lights out. Great squirrel rifle too.

I haven't done it in a while, but my buddy would get a buschel of roma tomatoes, we would put them on sticks at 100 and 150 yards. Fun to splatter. More fun to eat them tomoatos.

The 17HMR will be more accurate by a long shot. But that being said, I'll always have a 22WMR just for small to medium sized varmints. I feel more comfortable with the 22WMR on larger animals.

I'll put Anschutz money in nice 22LR's or even 17HMR's, but my 22WMR is a CZ since I use it for coyotes and other varmints around the house.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. The 22 WMR is hunting ammo not known to be better than 1 MOA at 100 yards, but it is better at killing larger varmints. The 17 HMR is usually more accurate but not by a lot and has reliability issues. While it is more accurate at 50 yards, they basically tie at 100 because of wind sensitivity. My CZ 455 with the 22WMR barrel attached will shoot the Hornady V-Max 30 grain bullets at 3/4" at 100 yards so that is my choice for bigger varmints.

I resisted the 17hmr for years. I have had a 455 varmint 17hmr now for years. I sold the 22mag. Unless you gonna hunt bigger stuff like fox and coyote get the HMR. I have a lot more money these days, so I would personally get something nicer than a CZ.

Thank you folks..common sense prevails!... beautiful as the Anshultz is i just cant bring myself to cash in on one. Not in this economy anyway,
I will have much more use with a 22mag hunting small game and like the old saying goes ..small game wont know the difference between a 1700$, and a 400$ rifle.. i would think technology has gotten to the point every one pumping out the same quality more or less using the cheapest materials available. I just cant stand all the black metal and plastic ..its horrible and goes against every grain in my being when im sitting in the forest and draw down on a critter.
I did just see the VT2 is awesome..but again way to expensive for my tastes..22plinkster did a nice review of this rifle on you tube if your interested.

Im leaning towards another CZ it seems..save my money for some new hunting clothes that actually fit..hahaha...
