Stockys Carbon VG tikka stock.

I am looking to rebarrel my tikka and put it in a new stock. Does anyone have experience with stocky's carbon hunter VG? I am wondering if the comb is higher than the factory stock? I would like to increase the LOP to 14" too. Is the recoil pad easily removed? Is the bedding block good, or should I anticipate glass bedding it?

My next choice is AG composites. Does anyone have experience with both?

I will be able to tell you in about X months. I have been on the backorder list for a while. No idea when I'll get mine. I thought maybe I would get it faster than an AG. Well that remains to be seen.

Now, this next part is not from personal experience...just from research.
From what I have read the recoil pad is removable. The comb does seem higher than the factory Tikka super light. I would think it's on par with the AG alpine hunter.

I was going back and forth about which to get for my Tikka. I went with the stocky's because it's just going on my 7x57 hunting rifle. So the cost savings won out over the AG based on me using it 2-3 weeks a year. I have read the bedding block is fine on both the AG and stockys. However I will skim bed mine just to be safe. It's a piece of mind thing and because I will do it myself semi-compitently. If I had to pay 300 bucks for professional bedding, I'd just roll with the block as is. Maybe I'd get it professionally done a few seasons later if it nagged at me .

Now for a dedicated year round range and field rifle, like let's say a predator rig, id probably go with the AG and a adjustable comb. Also depending on the cartridge, I think the stocky's VG hunter may be too light. I'm not big into this ultra light fad. 23 ounce stock on anything with more recoil than a 7mm08 sounds like no fun to shoot often. I'd go upto .270 for a gun I used 2-3 weeks a year, but more than that you will need to start adding weight. I'm already worried my 7x57 is gonna be barrel heavy and mis balanced with a bartelin 3b @3.8lbs. if I have to add weight, another good reason for a removable recoil pad.

But I knew what I was getting into and knew I may have to balance the rifle after I have everything installed.

Thanks! I agree on the weight. Its only going to be a 223ai or 20 practical, but from less than ideal field positions its still easy to lose sight picture. Id prefer more weight. I bed all my guns, but now I have some chassis, and not needing to bed them is sure nice.....The alpine hunter is my other choice.

Heres my 20 practical. I love the stock. It is very light though. Just make sure ur barrel is not too thick to make it front heavy

There is a ton of reviews over on the rokslide forum. Everyone agrees bedding is not needed. The inletting is tight. The bedding block material they use is apparently super hard and has no problems with the action screws torqued down to 65 in/lbs.

Yes, I think the pad is attached by screws and can be removed easily. The comb is higher than the factory stock but is still below bore line.

The only issue noted problematic by folks with very short fingers is the trigger reach. It's a little longer than some, but if you need a 14" lop is sound like you might be tall and have bigger hands.

I don't have one, but have been planning on it and keep an eye on all reports of this stock on that forum.

Thanks! I have big hands. XL glove. Some people said krg bravo was too long a reach. I think its perfect and I have 2.

I think the krg supposedly measures around a 1.7 inch trigger reach and the stockys Tikka vg measures around 2.25 because they used an existing mold without changing that portion. Some people have no issues and some people will add material to the front of the grip to decrease it. I've seen bondo as well as free firm air epoxy. The latter one is $35 on Amazon and is apparently awesome stuff. With the price of the stockys, $35 to make the trigger reach perfect isn't bad.

Also, they all say backordered, but their build time is super short.
How short?

I've been waiting about a month and a half. Not complaining. Just not sure if its gonna take 2 months or 6 months. Understanding that 2 months is by far shorter than anyone else right now doing similar stocks.

I bought one on sale last Christmas for my Mod7 with 22 in 6xc #3 sporter. The cost was $380 delivered so I took the risk on the comb but it worked out dead nuts with my 3.5-15 NF, which was mounted as low as possible. I have never had one of these vertical grip stocks before and I dont find it to be particularly comfortable, maybe because I haven't figured out the spot for my thumb. The trigger reach is fine with my xl hands. The barrel channel was a bit tight and easy to fix. I also had to hog out some material for my triggertech but also simple to do. I would like to have seen a bit more width on the forearm end but it is what it is. There is no problem cranking down to 65 in-lb. It isn't the eh-5 which I wanted but I am not displeased.

It depends on the model I think. For bare carbon Tikka (which is apparently pretty slick and you'd likely want to paint/add texture yourself) they were getting shipped maybe a week after order, but that was awhile ago so I don't know if that's increased or not. Their CS is reported to be great, so I'm think they could give you a quick answer during business hours

I took mike out again and I think I figured it out for my large hands. Just slide my hand farther rearward and it fits comfortably in the fat palm swell. Thumb goes straight on top inline with the bore and the trigger finger contact is right in middle of first pad. Works for me and happy with it now. Maybe that is the way you are supposed to grip this type of stock but I didn't know. Now I do! A26B7C58-21FC-4CC9-A827-9B88936A7916.jpeg

The recoil pad on the Stockys is screwed on but I think if you call them they may be able to put and thicker pad. Anticipate on bedding whichever one you buy. AG is heavier than Stockys in vertical grip stock with straight bottom unless you order stock with bag hook.

I didnt bed mine and I was busting clays at 550 on first outing. I had to shave a tad off my recoil lug.
