Stockpile primers and powder

Is anyone besides me stocking up on powder and primers? It appears that some ammos are already getting a little tight, and if it continues, it will extend to components. (I recall not that long ago a drought on primers and powder.) What size stock do you keep on hand?

Gene

Since the first Gulf go around in '91 when primers/powders were gettin' slim -

my working stock
300+ Lbs pistol/rifle powders on hand
25,000 + various SP/LP/SR/LR & match Fed/Rem primers on hand
15,000 CCI #35 BMG primers
100+Lb IMR5010/VV 24N41/20N29

Prices have doubled since the illegal immigrant has occupied Penna Ave!!

I try to keep at least a 2 year supply ahead for competition use, minimum.....since the last go around in '08 I've changed it to a 4 year supply for everything I shoot or load for.

Some call it hoarding, I see it as I'm saving money, at least that's what I tell my wife.............

Yes, I stocked up on primers big time late 90's and still have Fed. match primers in the white boxes that I am still using. Bought them when they were cheap, have now double stocked on primers last 2 years since the usurper got into the District of Criminals, pretty much have at least 3 pounds of powder and that covers all the Viht. line, Dupont, line, Hodgdon line and Alliant line. Still trying to catch up on bullets. And yes everything has gone up big time, loaded ammo in the stores is ridiculous. I am wanting to buy some quantity's of Berger Hybrids and Sierra MK's and am looking at a 500 dollar bill going bye byes.

I wouldn't be waiting too long, Graf & Son's have a warning up about Availability due to a RAPID INCREASE IN PRODUCT DEMAND as we approach the Nov. Elections. Also they state "We've just recieved notifications of shipping delays from many MANUFACTURES and more will no doubt follow soon".

This came to my email addy from Graf's with the weekly deals.......

I had already ordered, so I think I'm covered.

I usually have a decent amount of components on hand.

I try to avoid jumping on the short bus to panicville as much as possible.

The self fulfilling douchebaggery of it all makes me want to quit shooting and volunteer for Ali Bama's campaign. :o

Stopped at my local toy store yesterday morning. He's at 100% stock on primers and powder. Bullets and brass are a bit harder to get.

Y'all keep talking about shortages, and it will be a self fulfilling prophecy.

I was @ Cabela's today (Hamburg Pa store). The sales man told me that last Sat. they sold 400 hand guns and they had a meeting Sun and were told that all the manufactures informed them that as of now all the guns they are building are already sold. ????? Stopped for some powder but left with a 1911 taurus 30 super. Ouch

I received a message from Brownells shortly after the shot show that warned of shortages this year as ammo manufactures were already out of ammo, that had been contracted for and that 223/5.56 would be hard to get later in the year! As far as primers and powder there seems to be an ample supply of primers as I just came back from the Cactus in Phoenix and there were as many as you needed at Bruno's. Also the new T powder that has been much awaited for in the benchrest community is probably going to be on the market in the next 30-60 days. It is made by accurate and the designation will be LR-32. I think Lou Murdica said that there is 10,000 pounds in the first batch and another 5,000lbs to follow that. If you can find accurate 2015 with a manufactured in Canda sticke it is a T powder that does not meet the 1% volume and 1% burn rate, required by the contract. Stock up I keep 25-30K primers and about 160 pounds of powder on hand!

I have heard that the ammunition makers, gun manufacturers and gun retailers are some of the largest contributors to Obama's re-election effort!

If this is true what are they thinking

True story when Obama was sworn in our largest LGS usually has a large supply of AR-15's. I went to a couple of places like sporstmans warehouse and Cabela's to buy one and they were completely out! Then I go this LGS who typically has 15,000 firearms on hand and he had 2 left and the owner told me that Obama is the best salesman he had ever seen! He said he had never experienced the buying frenzy that was happening at that time!

We as reloaders and shooters we do this to ourselves, it's not stockpiling, it's called hoarding. When folks start to buy everything up, there is no way the manufacturers can keep up, it's same with a loaf of bread. Problem is, those who do this leave nothing for the poor schmuck who doesn't, then when the poor schmucks need powder or primers or what ever, he can't get it. Not fair....
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Dave T,
Look at the big picture-
The legalized crooks in the district on the east coast tried to ban weapons/magazines etc of 9/94.
Another legalized crook getting his little head polished in the back room hiding from his super c_nt wife trying to make a name for herself.
The black, muslim, illegal immigrant on Penna Ave now will never mention assult weapons banning.
Look at the incompetent companies that are buying up manufacturer after manufacturer.
Serberus,ATK etc,etc.
Serberus Mgmnt owns Budweiser as of Aug 2011.
I'll make the statement that the management company will run the firearms industry in the ground but those will still have beer that kills more in one way or another surpassing firearms related incidents 100 fold.
Prices rise to put mom & pop out of business & make components so expensive most just say f_ck it.

Those who snooze loose!!
Those who snore loose more!!

rant off

It always is. And the price increases due to the stupidity are not appreciated.

Then there are those that buy to profit from the shortage......CLASS ACTS.... >:(

You could also look at it this way, I am a group shooter,I probably expend upwards of 3-4000 rounds of hanloaded ammo annually if I bought primers only when I needed them and when I got to where I buy them they were out of them, I am done, I can't go to another match until I find some! This is one of 2 hobbies shooting being the number one hobby. Add to that that I have an annual amount dedicated to going to matches, price fluctuations can impact my shooting budget. I am already shooting fewer matches just because of fuel cost! I just got back from the Cactus, cost for just me to attend, slept in my truck, fuel cost $400.00, entry fee $100.00, misc food 30.00, can you honestly say that if you were dedicated to your shooting sport that you would risk not being able to go because you couldn't find primers or powder?

No doubt that keeping an ample supply at hand for personal usage to avoid variances in availability is prudent.

I try to keep 1 yrs supply on hand. riverwolf1 appears to keep 7-8 years. Dans 40x even more (!).

When do things cross the line from prudent to hoarding? Who's to say?

All I know is that panic begets panic.

Might want to look into adding Surgical tubing & Marbles or 10mm bearings to stockpile !! When Klinton went into office there was also a mad rush to have archery supplies and it took me 8 months to get what was usually a week turn around for raw shafts !!

Anyone know where I can get a 6 gang 36 cal mold for lead ball ? Everywhere I look I can get single or dbl.

Thanks
