Stock re-finishing question

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
I have a wood stock that has been finished with True Oil.

At some point, before I owned it there was a modification done to the stock, correctly I might add but the finish in the stock isn`t the same.

The original owner is a buddy, he`s also the one who modified it and did the finish work on the modification.

I REALLY like the auto clear finish on my wood stocks, but I`m leary with this one and the previous oil finish.

Can the True Oil be sanded off and refinished with an auto clear or will I run the risk of getting fish eyes in the clear????

Any other ideas for a tough finish that could be applied???

Tru-oil is a penetrant. If it was me, I would sand the whole stock and refinish with Tru-oil again. Once it has sat a couple of days (3 at least) you can spray poly over it.

I've done this several times with Tung oil and sprayed poly over it for a high gloss finish.

Larry,

That`s kinda what I figured....

Sooooo............Please explain Poly......I`m a welder and NOT a wood worker, and I won`t even begin to say that I know what I`m doing with this..... ;D
