Stock modification

I just recieved my B & C medalist and when I place the action and barrell in the stock I have contact along the right side of the barrel down the channel. My question is what procedure or method do I use to open the channel up? Can I just use sandpaper and a dowel rod or do I need to do something special because of the construction of the stock? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I helped open up my buddys BC A2 stock we just used a dowel rod and some emery cloth took the better part of a couple hours due to how hard the outter core of the stocks are

would a dremel tool work with a couple of the sanding bits? I dont need to take much out. just not sure how the material the stock is made from will react or come off.

crem1: That seems to be a standard on many of them. I had to remove a little material from several of mine, also on the right side. Very minor job with a wood dowell & 80 grit paper, some flat black touch up paint. Check your bolt handle cutout. Mine had contact with the stock in the closed position, a quick fix with my Dremel tool & paint touch up.

I have had the problem with b&c stocks,same thing always the right side.I have also had problems with every savage factory stock and out comes the dremel and channel scraper.I also had the same problem with a stocks wood laminate as well.

Just some friendly advice, unless your practiced with that dremel don't use it, they cut very fast even at a low rpm.
On stocks I've had to adjust, sand paper, blocks and time does the job much better.
it's easy to take stuff off, but hard to UN-sand something.

wrap tape around the barrel near the foreend tip so that when you set the barreled action in the stock it is centered, use bedding bolts in the action, tape the lug front side and bottom.

Devcon epoxy bed it. Now it's centered and stress free.

necchi: The Dremel tool with a grinding wheel was needed for the narrow somewhat curved bolt cut in the stock. Just a very little bump/raised area needed to be removed, and the Dremel did a fine job. No, I would never think of using the Dremel in the barrel channel. As you said too easy to remove too much.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I used the dremel with a very fine wheel and then used the dowel road and got enough clearance that I can run a piece of card stock between the barrel and stock, I will work on bedding the action in the near future another step that will be a first for me. Never to late to learn though. Thanks again everyone.
