Stock for a Mod. 70 Winney

I have a post 64 winney, HB/243. I been looking for a replacement stock and seem to be SOL! Wait time and price are killing me on Manners and H-S. I'd like to find a varmint style stock and would do a laminate if I find the "right" one. Needs to be long action for a 2 piece bottom metal. Tried Boyds but they must be out to lunch, called six times and left messages to return my call, but no answer. Any suggestions who to try?? Its an older rifle in good condition and a good shooter, but don't want to break the bank, its still a stock rifle for now.

I have the same gun, was a 243, rebarreled with a heavy bull in 22-250ai and I layed it in a McMillan kevlar/boron model. that was bout 20 yrs ago and i don't see that exact model on thier list, but there is one that looks almost exactly like it (only a couple choices for post 64). It's been a great stock, still like new.

You could try Richards Microfit Stocks. They have a good price and a huge variety of Laminated Stocks.

Yes their range is great, the number of actions inlets quite impressive, the price is alright for something you have to finish yourself, but they are pretty slow in production, (i have been waiting for a stock since April) and their communication skills the worst I have ever seen in USA.

give them a try:http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/StoreFront

Keep an eye on gunbroker. I have seen those for sale on occasion. Seem to be a rarity, I have the same action as you and finally bot a HS, If I were to do over---McMillan for a few $$ more. I have an A3 Mcmillan that I would sell but it is for a SA with a two piece floorplate, whic is no help for you, good luck.

I've looked on Stocky's and they offer a laminate but the barrel channel is for a sporter. They claim you can open them up for a HB but without knowing for sure, I don't know how much material will be left on the fore-end. I want to be able to free float the barrel and still have plenty of material left. Some stocks that are opened up look pretty, well, opened up!! If you know what I mean. Looked on Richards and might give them a call. They have a few in the "seconds" that are ready to ship.
Thanks !

I have a stock blank that is a staight grain walnut w/ a beavertail forend. I think it was a Herter's or Bishop blank. I used one of these for a HP stock, the barrel channel is small so you make it what you want. It has a monte carlo cheek piece and the forend looks a lot like a 40X. If interested contact me.

I ordered a laminate TH from Boyd's. Its not exactly what I wanted but will do for now. Funds ran low due to unexpected auto repairs (wifes car) and got into my gun fund rat hole. She's happy so I can play again, just have to save a while for better toys. Thanks to all-pyscodog

I bought one of those Boyds TH Varmint for my current project with an HV contour and it opens up fine with plenty of meat left. My barrel has a straight taper and I just happened to have a broom handle that tapered out just about perfect so I used it for a tapered sanding mandrel-worked great.

Received my Boyd's stock last week. As expected, the barrel channel was waaay to small for the barrel on my winney. After a few hours of sanding, I managed to get it floated, following up with bedding the recoil lug area. All in all, for $112.00 its a pretty nice stock. It will serve me until I decide where I want to go with this rifle. It may be a builder as I really want a 6.5x284 or maybe a 260. Then the search will start over again. Thanks for all your advice and opinions.
