STOCK FILLER

I have a spare Remington 700 composite stock that I want to customize....the but of the stock is hollow, I would like to fill it with something that will set up solid, besides buying 100 tubes of jb weld what other epoxy filler could I use, any ideas are welcome, thanks, dave

get some light expanding foam in a can if you are not worried about weight there is some that expands less but doesn't keep expanding after a few minutes !! paint dept. at wallyworld has these !

I've used two methods with ADL plastic butstocks both work

Fill it with spray foam or jam it full off plastic Walmart bags

The bags actually deaden the hollow sound better than the spray foam

If you dont like the sound (feel) Use a 2 part auto structural foam Local auto paint jobber If you want to make it solid, or add more comb, adjustable cheek etc... Use USC Duraglass. This is a millfiber (chopped fiberglass) filler. It will get hard enough to retain fixtures. Well nuts, Posts, Turnwheel hardware and so on. Also at local auto paint jobber The only downside is it will add some weight.

Hard foam and fiberglass resin. Cheap and makes for a very solid buttstock. If you want a bit more weight add in some shot.

My PSS stock

I removed the thin rubber butt pad and filled the cavity with lead shot and 5 minute epoxy

The PSS stocks are different than the regular Rem HSP stocks so I fitted a Medium grind to Limb Saver

My 308 PSS was my first bolt action rifle, 26 inch barrel was nose heavy, the addition of the lead shot in the cavity balanced the rifle nicely, that extra weight and the Limb Saver made shooting a FTR match enjoyable instead of miserable.

the problem with 2 part ( pour foam ) they may push stock apart ! also they may expand further in hot weather .
