Stimulus? Honest question follows

My wife and I are retired sort of. I'm still working some. When they announced this my wife said we don't need it. They're going to send whether we want it or not. That led to a plan. My wife and I have pledged $200 a week to restaurants we frequent that have a tip jar where it goes to all employees working or not. That's 12 weeks for the $2400 were supposed to get. I'll track down the lady who cuts my hair and help her out also. Those that don't need it need to find a way to give to those who take care of the rest of us.

If Big "Don T" sends me a check for $1,200 bucks it is spent. I collect 10MM pistols and have 8 @ in my gun corral. Number #9, 10MM will be a 1911 Colt Rail gun. Thanks "Don T".:)

I intend to accept this as retribution from the government for them sitting on their dead asses and allowing the short sellers to rape and pillage the nation's 401K accounts. This doesn't come close to covering what I lost, but it's a start.

I wish I knew more about stocks and how they are bought and sold. Are "short sales" the reason the market took such a dive?

As best as I can understand it with the information I had to work with, it is. I don't have a good enough of an understanding to explain how short selling actually works, but this is/was the reason given for the market taking a dump. The same scenario happened in 2008, the last time the market had a "correction". In my opinion (and yes I know what they say about opinions) this like back in 2008 was an engineered theft of countless billions or even trillions of dollars.
The only explanation of short selling I can find says, sellers borrow shares of stock that they do not own, and sell those shares at the current market price. Their goal after that is to re-buy those shares at a lower price at some point in the future, return them to the lender and pocket the profits from this sale. I'm having a problem accepting how any one can "borrow" shares from any one or institution, sell them, drive the price of the shares down, re-buy them without some illegal manipulation of the stock market. This time and the last time this happened, the Democrats were in charge of the House of Representatives. The branch of government that is supposed to over-see the domestic agenda, and set the precedence of the nation. I fail to see how any of this can be accomplished without insider manipulation.

I agree, and as far as I'm concerned, they should STOP with, the Short selling and over Nite, Futures, Trading ! Between losses, in the Market and our Taxes, WILL go up to, pay for, the FEDS "Mistakes" and the Wall Street "scum", robbing everyone ! I'll hold mine, like you said, "it's, a start" ! Probably, I'll give most of it away to, any Hungry,.. Neighbors ! At my age, I've already got, plenty of, Guns and Ammo !

Only the left-wing , Lame-stream Media has a lower rating than Princess Pelosi , the Squad, and all their merry leftist henchmen who have forgotten who they are supposed to be representing ...Or have they ?
Years and Millions spent on investigating the POTUS , and nothing . Now they have turned this COVID Bill into a Christmas wish list of liberal causes while holding a gun to the peoples head smiling , as they said . "Give us what we DEMAND"! "Or you get nothing"! And delaying the monies for desperate people in severe need . Payments that could already been en-route , now delayed by weeks . When did they stop being the party of the little guy ? Stupid me ....They never were anything but the party of special interests .

And don't forget, there are also those living off disability and/or a defined pension plan and an annuity where their income is not effected.

Agree . . . doing it via unemployment insurance seems to me the best way.

This is why I don't "need" this money and will be looking for some who does.
I live on 1859.00 per month on SSD with a blown out back. With my girl friends monthly she gets 700.00 and that is what we live on. I shouldn't admit this but I have not received a real cost of living since last year when we got 2.8 percent increase which is a joke. During the last administration we got less than 1 percent a year and since medicare went up I actually lost about a hundred bucks a month. Now with the corona garbage all ssi/ssd recipients will get nothing for years to come. People are mad because Trump did this to save us so to speak and they complain he upped our national debt but the last 2 administrations raised the national debt 15 trillion in 16 years and the news blew it off till Trump bailed us out now he is under fire. The bail out for us is only 10 percent of the 2.2 trillion, whats next? Gee I wonder where the rest went to, I would love to see the actual bill. We have to reign in spending and drive the debt down or we will be bankrupted for sure. I pray everyday things will change but I am losing hope. We also need to become fully independent of all foreign countrys. If we go back to heavy duty manufacturing our GDP will explode. If this is too heavy then just delete it.Rant over and God Bless all of you.

One of our local restaurants set up a go fund me page for all the employees. I hope the others follow suit. Sure makes it easy/safer way to help those in need. We ordered take out pizza Tuesday. While it was being prepared I went around town and put $20 in every tip jar. I got a lot of surprised looks from owners as well as customers. Now to track down the Gal that cuts my hair. One car needs new tires. I noticed my local shop wasn't very busy so I'll stop by there today.

Short sellers didn't drive the market down. They're part of a healthy market. Most invest expecting values to go higher, some invest expecting values to go lower. Neither side controls the market. Talk to those short sellers when stocks go up. That can artificially drive values up of individual stocks.
Let's see 95% reduction in air travel, stay at home orders, all travel and tourism halted, car companies shut down, parts suppliers shutdown, construction all but halted, most manufacturing halted. Mom and Pop companies all but shut down. Oil price war between Russia and the Saudi's. Then add in the uncertainty of Covid 19. The list goes on. It's not a market problem it's a world health problem. To put things in perspective my investment accounts are down about 25%. There are still about 10% higher than they were in Nov. '18. As bad as it looks I'll take that. I turn 70 tomorrow. I've seen many pull backs. It/we always come back. Good time to invest any cash you have laying around. Strum Ruger is up about 33% in the last 3 weeks.
YMMV
