I’m not an economist by any stretch of the the imagination, but couldn’t we have simply propped up the economy by paying everyone’s salaries while the world is on pause? No layoffs, everyone can continue to pay their mortgages and bills, buy groceries, etc. We give those with essential jobs hazard pay while we wait this thing out. When it’s safe to restart everyone goes back to work and the economy goes right back to where it was before the crisis. If everyone’s salaries are covered, including execs and CEOs, then there is no reason to pay anyone off. Why wouldn’t this work? I don’t see how giving cash to corporations who let go of workers does anything for the economy.

I heard that people on Social security will get it, there is a form to fill out. It may come automatically from the SSI office. Also read that even people that haven't worked in a long time even homeless can get it if they get
the proper form and fill it out. Supposedly even if you owe back taxes you can get it.

For married filing jointly the adjusted gross income cap to receive the full $2400 is $150,000

After all these years, when we retired, we have a income which allows to live comfortable for the rest of our lives. For most places in this country, that's true. But there ARE some places (like Silicon Valley) where 150,000 gross doesn't go very far. . . . unless they're a single person living in a small apartment. If you really want to kinda get a feel for what it's like, take a look on Zillow and see what housing prices are like (median being $850,000) and average rental around something like $2,800 - $3,500 mo. Hard to imagine an average family, in Silicon Valley, paying $20,000 per year just in their home's property tax for a little cracker box, huh???

I see this as they keep voting for the same party. They get what they are voting for.

There must be a million internet discussions and articles already about who will or will not get some sort of financial relief. If you've filed a tax return or get SS you will automatically be entered into the giveaway. Since SS may or may not be taxable, most people will likely have filed some sort of return. If you need to file a return to obtain a check, there are discussions about how to do that and one can do it for free. One may need a friend or relative to help you.

For those who don't need the money, help someone who does need it.

There was a Dem Congresswoman on FoxNews this week ; whining about the fact that "ALL" persons on S.S. would get a payment from the stimulus pkg. , while the GOP was fighting "them" about money for abortions . ( Another argument for another place ) The point being , she clarified that S.S. recipients would be getting a check . I'll not hold my breath waiting for it to arrive , but it would help . Do these liberal pols think that the costs of my food , gas , utilities and reloading supplies stopped going up when I retired ?.........What a bunch of Maroons !

And for all of you whining about what Reagan did ; you're short memories have conveniently forgotten about the Dems , their Union pals , the Mafioso friends and the building trades for what they did with the so-called Pension Guarantee Fund . Used it for their own personal piggy bank , also like they have with our S.S. Fund , and kept it all hidden till the whole "Buildings / Unions" Ponzi scheme collapsed . As a small business owner of a fence company,not only did I have to take out SS for the each of the crew that week but I had to match that out of my own pocket.All the while not getting credit for the total.After 39 years of of breaking my body to make up for the slack of these drug infested vagabonds for workers I now get a measly SSD check which pales compared to what I've paid in.What really burns my ass is watching illegals receive more in aid than I will ever get !
