Stiller Tac 30 Bolt Binding

I picked up a stiller TAC 30 on here. It is in 6 dasher. I got it back from my smith last week have a bedding job and ceracoating the barrel and bottom metal. The action is coated from the factory and has 400 rounds fired on it from the previous owner.

When I cycle the bolt it binds on the guide rail at the bottom, right of the action. What is causing this and are there any solutions to fixing this? I tried calling stiller but no answer or return call.

There is no coating on the cut in the bolt that rides the rail. I used several different types of lube. Not a gun smith so dont want to mess with the bolt beyond that.

Thanks for your time.

With an anti-bind rail just grease it up and work the bolt a few thousand times. Until then put hobo oil on it and figure out the best angle to push it. If you push too hard on the handle itll kick it to the side and bind it. Try to push the bolt closed with your thumb on the rear cocking piece straight in

That’s what I was worried about having to manipulate the bolt a certain way to make it work. It was going to be a PRS gun.

I’ve encountered that with quite a few Stiller’s. Cycling multiple times may smooth it out some, look for sharp edges on the leading edge of the bolt lugs that might dig in and the rear edge of the action, but there are smoother actions out there. The Surgeon is one of them that doesn’t seem to have this issue, sure there are many others that are slicker.

I’ve handled/cycled a few rifles that had the Robar treatment and they were slick as glass...might be able to just have the bolt treated.

yeah i have a short action predator and I'm pretty dissappointed with the bolt cycling on it. binds badly!

mind you, also have a Sako 75 long action that binds too! Why cant all actions be a slick as a cheap Tikka????

Tikka are pretty nice. What did you do to remedy the bolt? Or are you just living with it?

Ok great. I’ll look into that. Still no response from Stiller.

...well I figured it out. I cleaned the action really well and took all the grease and lube I had on it. I cleaned the lugs and the chamber. It’s running way better now. It was probably just gunked up. I ordered Hobo oil too. Going to put a thin coat on. Hopefully, that was the issue and I’m just an idiot.

Also...no word from Stiller. Kind of annoying. 3 phone calls, with one message, and an email. It’s been two weeks.

i have a Tac 30 that would bind when new. Have 940 rounds on it now and it is running smooth. Did not notice at what point it smoothed up.
