Stiller extractor problem

On a m-16 style extractor on a TAC 300 action with standard bolt face, I have noticed some fine shavings of brass. I know it's not ejector smears, so it has to be caused by by a burr or edge on the extractor. I felt around it at the range today with a exacto blade and could not feel anything obvious.

Is the best remedy to give it a light stoning with a Fine Arkansas stone or polish it with Autosol on a felt dremel pad? I have also noticed some pieces of Norma brass being a little snug in my shell holders, so there is also a possibility that some of the rims are a little thick.

What say ye ?

I would think you would be fine with just a quick stoning. I just think that is something that happens with the m16 style extractors. It happens on an AR to the point that if not cleared it will decrease the effectiveness or even stop the extractor from working. When I was shooting service rifle heavy I would see that issue often. Enough to make complete bolt disassembly and cleaning a fairly regular cleaning practice for me.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the rims are a touch over-sized. I've run into that with Norma/Nosler 6.5-284 brass. The cases wouldn't eject reliably. Lapua brass, no problem. The rims were thicker on the Norma stuff.

After pulling the extractor and examining it under magnification, I could not find any imperfections. I stoned the edges very lightly and reinstalled it. Guess it's rim thickness variances. I'll just have to pay attention and keep ejector hole clean.
