Still Shooting The 30X47?

Ive been shooting it and really like it. It seems easy to tune and a 118 gr bullet doing 3320 with a fairly conservative charge of h4198 is hard to beat.

I've been shooting one in short range score at 200 & 300 yards only since 2016. It's a 30x47 variation that Sid Goodling came up with and it's called a Jaguar2. Have had decent luck with it, I even managed to win the 200 yard portion of the 2016 IBS 100-200 Nationals in Johnstown, NY with it. I noticed the barrel going away early last year. Just wasn't shooting as good as when I first got it. I was running a 16TW Hart, shooting 44 grains of N133 with a 112 Bart bullet at an avg speed of 3225fps. Going to have 2 new 16TW Brux barrels chambered this year for it and unlike previous years I'm going to shoot some 1" jacket bullets in 120,121, and 125 grain with either 133 or 135.

About 20ish years ago a friend of mine found on Ebay someone that had a BUNCH of different caliber match bullets cheap for sale. Long story short he got contact information to the person and struck up a confidence with the woman. Turned out her husband had been a big bench rest shooter and had died about 10 years earlier and she had not done anything with his stuff. She was found to have cancer and was in need of money and decided to sale all the shooting stuff. She asked for my friends help. A couple of the 6mm PPC bench rifles were out dated Rem. 700 sleeved actions and there were a number of wild cat caliber weapons that were top quality shooters but where on oddball actions like Rem 788, Ruger #1 and Ruger 77. He also had a number of T/C Contender pistols with a number of wild cat calibers. He also had some top quality bench rest rifles and one long range 308. Most of these had Heart barrels. With stuff like this it had to be a special person that was a hand loader and knew about working with wild cats. This was right up my alley as well as my friend and a few other friends. We basically took the blue book of gun values of what a 90% condition weapon of what the action was as our offer price which we felt was fare. She excepted all offers. We bought out everything right down to the last bullet at a very good price. I got a Ruger 77 tang safety with a varmint barrel that was a Ruger barrel originally in 220 Swift. The fellow had sent this barrel to someone that really knew what they were doing and had it re-bored to a 1 in 12" twist 30 cal barrel and chambered in 30x47 (300 Savage parent case). He also had sent it to someone else and had a special throat angle that was supposed to be optimum for best accuracy with cast bullets. Yes CAST BULLETS. I have all the paper work and previous load work up and targets on this rifle. This fellow documented EVERYTHING. He had only shot this rifle 80 times. He died from a heart attack soon after having the rifle built.
It is in the Ruger wood stock and the action is glassed in bisanight (SP?) barrel is free floated and 24" and it has a Canjar trigger on it. His intentions was to shoot hunter class bench rest using cast bullets. I got the loading dies and some cases in the deal. Also there was a 20 power Lyman target scope on the rifle that he was using during load work up.
After much research I found that IMR 4895 and Varget are the powders I worked with. 42 grs IMR 4895 with 125 through 155 gr bullets shoots AWESOMELY. With 168 Sierra MK Varget shoots AWESOMELY. I have owned a lot of rifles in the past 50 years with all the bells and whistles and this is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. I have told people I believe that you could load a case full of black pepper and stick a cotton ball in as a bullet and it would shoot bug holes.
I mainly use this rifle for informal target shooting and hunting. It is deadly on deer with the 125 Nosler BT running 2850 fps and Berger 155 VLD doing 2650 fps. I have targets that I have shot at 200 yards using 155 Nosler CC, Berger VLD and Sierra 168 MKs that are 5 shots in a ragged hole. Only limitation on accuracy is me.
