30x47 info request

I've searched but haven't found much on the 30x47. Looking more on using the Lapua case but any info would be helpful. I was going to build a 30 BR but recently saw a 30x47 shoot in a local match and was impressed. I'm not very familiar with this cartridge. All I know is he is using 118 BIBs. Thanks in advance for any info.

Shaun.

There are a lot of different "30X47's" around. Some are built on the Lapua case and others are built on the 300 Savage case. The Savage case is a touch larger diameter at the web area. I have one built on the 300 Savage case. I just stumbled into it though. A friend was helping a widow sale off her late husbands shooting stuff about 20 years after he had died. This rifle I bought had just been built for the fellow and he had not shot it but about 50 times and that was with cast bullets just to fire form his cases. He got sick and died shortly after getting this rifle. If this guy sneezed he wrote it down. I have all the targets and information that he used. With cast bullets this rifle was a shooter. The worst groups were 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Believe it or not it is built on a Ruger 77 action. It has a heavy about like a #7 Shilen size 24 inch CM barrel. I do not know who made the barrel. It is in the factory wood stock glassed in Bisonight,SP?) with a Canjar,SP?) trigger. This rifle is a dream. All you do is put 42 grs of IMR 4895 or 41 gr of Varget into a case and seat most any 125 to 168 gr bullet and it shoots in the 3's and 4's . I tried some Berger 155 VLD's the first time the other day at 100 yards and the first group I shot was .357 outside to outside for five shots. Take out the bullet diameter .308 and you have .049 and this was with a heavy cross hair deer hunting scope set on 12 power. I don't match shoot with it. I have been using it to deer hunt with and punch paper some. My friend that I shoot with used to be range master for the State benchrest shoots in TN and he tells me I could do very well in those matches with this rifle if I wanted to. I got the loading dies and form die and about 150 Wincester 300 savage cases with 100 not fire formed yet. There were some cases made from Federal match nickel 308 cases with the necks turned. There is some information on the web about this caliber but not much. What I have found says that Hunter Bench Rest shooters like the 30 cal. bullet because it has a better chance of cutting a line and getting higher point value.

The 30-47 is a Hunter Br roound. It is made by either necking up the 6.5-47 Lapua brass or pushing the shoulder of the 300 Savage brass back. It is very accurate. There are many reamers for this out there and you would need a sizing die made at the same time. HBR is shot with 6X scope and 10# rifle. We just had our last match of the year here in WI yesterday.
