Steve Hoskin Rules at Manatee IBS - Final

CaptainMal

Silver $$ Contributor
For the second year in a row the Florida State Championship was won by a shooter from outside Florida. Steve Hoskin, from Minnesota, took home the top prizes, plaque and honors today. It was almost like a normal day in South Florida with sunshine and warm breezes. Some shooters got "hot" while others just plodded along to two-day victory.

First overall for the entire weekend was Steve Hoskin with Captain Mal (me???) second and Mark Niezabitowski third. Read the plaque to see who is who. Seems only Mark can smile.

Here are the early copies of the sheets so you can see today's results. Yesterday is on the "Day 1" thread. The last sheet is a compilation of both today's finish and a calculated result for both days that gave us the final rankings. All final sheets will soon be on the IBS website when director Steve Krauss sorts everything out and turns it in.

Super thanks to the wonderful sponsors that filled the back of our shirts and the prize table. These two shooters and their outfits show some of our gratitude.

The prize table had over $500 for the top finishers and super prizes from Bart's Bullets, Roy Hunter Bullets, Vapor Trail bullets, Brux, Hornady, Vortex, Alex Wheeler, Field and Cave, RAS Tuners, Affordable Landscaping and many more from local shooters, gunsmiths and businesses. Everyone went home, bellies full of food and a shooting experience.

That's enough for this thread with more pictures and stories to follow.

More pictures from the IBS shoot at Manatee in south Florida this past weekend. Prize table and cash prizes form many, including English Rifles and others like Doug Bell and Steve Krauss along with "Alibaba" of Affordable Landscape sure made everyone involved a winner.

Just finished the financials this afternoon. Promise, ha, ha, to have the equipment list additions to the match results done tomorrow. I will post the .pdf versions here and then they will be up on the IBS site later in the week.

Man, I hate that job! Reading many of the equipment sheets, reminds me of someone drawing with a crayon in the dark.

Seems like a good time had by all. My thanks to all that helped make it happen. Steve

How about Mark taking third with a Savage!

There's more. That Savage rifle was built by Eric Bostrom over a decade ago. I had it built and went into a third barrel on it when I sold it to Charlie Brown. He used it a while, then sold it to Mark. Think it is on his second barrel but know his round out is ......

... over 3,000 rounds. The chambering has always been Dasher through all those barrels. Mark also used this same rifle to take a second to Bart in the Championship last year.

Here is an older picture of the rifle.

Mark has a "build" with Alex Wheeler going on right now. Think Alex is doing it with three different barrels. I do not know what action they chose and just guessing it will have one of Alex's stocks. If it is even more competitive than we might all be in for a surprise.

Thank you for the kind words Capt.Mal
This rifle is a shooter and Eric Bostrom did a great job re-barreling it last year
I'm still learning how to shoot with this rifle with the guidance of you Capt.Mal, Larry Tolksdorf and Charlie Brown, 2800 rounds down the pipe after this weekend and almost ready to re barrel
I'd like to thank you guys, BT1 Doug Bell, Eric Bostrom, AliBaba, Rich Prince and the target crew ......and many many others to make it happen.....THANK YOU!!!

Mark Niezabitowski

Is Bostrom still building them? How much does a "well built" Savage sell for?

You would be best served talking directly with Eric Bostrom. sales@bostromgunsmithing.com Website: http://www.bostromgunsmithing.com

Eric is also the source of the RAS tuners so popular and successfully used by so many of us. He markets both tuners, brakes and tuner brakes that seem to be a little-known jewel for benchrest shooters and hunters. Many of us have multiple examples on our various rifles. He takes "gas guns" and modifies them for competition and has special tuners for them. I even have Eric modify things others have produced. He is the official scorer of our Manatee IBS shoots and has the best of reputations.

Let me add that Steve and his lovely "woman" were a delight to be around. We serviced our gear together and at the end were assigned benches next to each other. When I had to deal with trigger failure during heavy gun, problems that came up with my help overseeing many aspects of the operation while shooting, they were both helpful and cooperative.

Even when I "pulled my hair out" dealing with background operation issues, they laughed along with me and continued on. Sure they may think I'm a bit crazy busy and a little nuts dealing with it all. They never let on. What a wonderful experience I had and much because of Steve.

Oh yeah - he does shoot a "cannon". The results tell us all he made "cannon fodder" of the entire field. Keep it going "kid".

Well, as promised;) Attached are the .pdf files of our 2 day Championship match, with the equipment lists. They will likely also be up on the IBS site later.

Have to comment on the great meal served Saturday afternoon. Thanks Rich. Steak was the way I like it Very Rare:) Have to say that I was warned about the beans being a bit hot. I said bring it on and thought the first 2 spoon fulls were even better than expected. Then the heat kicked it big time. Was told they were nose runny good and I can now agree, mine was:)

Can't wait until next year. I will be shooting again this year and hope to travel to my favorite matches be it F-Class or Bench.

Thanks again to all that made our match a success.

Steve
