Stepped/bore rider throat.

Stepped throat, bore rider, plus p, what ever you call it. Dave Kiff's design of a stepped throat to give more velocity, I want to hear your experiences with it. What kind of velocity did you get, barrel life, accuracy?
Thanks

Dusty,
Actually it is working quite well in the short range BR game. Lou Murdica's grandaughter and lou did very well during Nov, Dec matches last year in Phoenix! She shot a teen agg, and won two small groups, one was small group for the yardage, Lou, won a yardage and early 2015 I think he won an agg. And Dave Kiff can't make the bore rider reamers fast enogh! IIRC Lou's grandaughter was using LT-32 and Berger Column's and Lou was using LT-32 and Berger 65 gr BT's!

Lou can shoot a slingshot. And hes using lt30 powder developing it at the time you spoke of. Im not sure kiff can make any reamer fast enough but thats another story too!! But yes lou is doing very well with it. Lou is superman like larry costa. Hardest working dudes in BR. Lou is also trying to figure out what a juenke machine does so he can build them too and was instrumental in march scopes. A true ambassador to the sport

Dusty, lmao, best post I have read in a while, and your right on about him being one of the best ambassador's Of bench rest! He is also the primary driver of the development of Lt-30&32! Your statement about the Junke machine, was priceless, i have read the post and for the life of me I can't figure out what it does.

You ever heard of snake oil? Being around the best bullets made and looking at more juenke machines in one spot at the same time besides the manufacturer and being an EE myself i wouldnt invest $3 into any development but thats lou- trying anything he can to make things better if he can.

It will probably work better in long range than it has in short range. At least one would hope.

Old post, I know.

But I searched first like a good boy & wondering what the current consensus might be on this topic for the 28 Nosler running the 195's?
Ready to order my reamer & trying to figure out if I should try the bore rider reamer or not.

Thanks,
-Rick

works pretty nice in a 300RUM reamer I had Kiff make for me. Velocity is better than average, I wouldn't rechamber a gun just to change it but I don't regret getting the reamer.

I have some in a 6mm dasher. Too soon to know for sure, but accuracy seems to be as good with less pressure. They still like to shoot at the same speeds. Why bother in the 28? I have them running 3050+ in 26" barrels and if you step on them you should be able to get over 3100. I dont think a bore rider is the best idea for chamberings that are already hard on barrels.

One thing I will add from experience with this throat design that is undisputeable is throat erosion is about double that of a 1 degree 30 minute.

Alex

After 400-500 rounds fired wouldn't any benefit of a bore rider be diminished/eliminated with throat erosion?

Rich

Rich, I dont think so. The shape will remain as its eroded. Tom has not burned out his bore rider barrels yet so we dont know for sure.

Thanks Alex. I have a couple other questions on reamers but I'll wait until August when I see you at Deep Creek.
