Starting point with the 7mm Ultra Mag

I'm new to reloading and I'm wondering where a good starting point with the 7mm UM? the gun I have is a savage with a 9.25" twist. I'd like to shoot at distance, big game. I just don't want to waste the time and money if someone out there is willing to share an effective recipe.

I shoot a remy Sendero and was very hard to get accuracy load. I suspect the Action and barrel are not as true as they could be, but for an over the counter gun it shoots 3/4" at 100 and have no trouble keeping them in 6" at 500. It shoots 140gr Nosler balistic tips over 95gr of RL 25 for 3500 fps. Have taken Pronghorn at 300 yds, Mule Deer at 250 and White Tail at 225yds. They all dropped in there tracks. Bullet may be too fragile for that velocity but by the time it gets out 200-300 yds it works great.

Good luck

I have taken whitetail out to 350 yards with a 139 grain Hornady Interbond bullet. I have found that the bonded bullet makes less of a mess, as it does not liqify the guts when you hit lungs/heart. About 95 grains of H1000 worked for me, velocity runs around 3450 fps. I also shot a caribou at 290 yards, dropped where I hit it.

my rem 700 bdl really likes imr7828 nosler 140btip 88.6/imr7828 86 155 hornady sst shoot .250s consistently all with Winchester brass fed.215 gold medal match large mag primers.

My Rem. 700 CDL likes 111.0 grains of Accurate Arms 8700, 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, and Federal 215M primers. It also likes 106.0 grains of AA 8700, Nosler 160gr Accu-Bond, and Federal 215M priimers. Both loads shoot sub-MOA in my 700 CDL. Both loads have taken deer at 450+yds as well.

With 140gr bullets, if you opt to use AA 8700, start at 106.0 grains and max is 112.0 grains. With 160gr bullets, start at 102.0 grians and max is 109.0 grains.
