Starting point for 8208 XBR???

I need a good starting point for my 6BR. I'm using 8208 with some 90gr Bergers. Where did you guys start at? By the way, my Rig is a Stevens 200, trued with a PT&G Bolt Head, Kreiger 1/8" Twist finished at 26". HS Precision Stock. It shot in the .1's with Varget but that powder is like trying to buy a Unicorn around here all of the sudden. I've tried other powders but no luck. Keeping my fingers crossed for the 8208.

Ty,

In my 8-twist I found good results at about 29 grains of XBR with a Berger 80 grain FB. So, back off a couple of grains and you should find some good groups. My best group before going to my 14-twist was a 0.077 3-shot group on my sighter! The XBR has good accuracy potential and I think it's pretty temperature insensitive.

Good luck and good shooting!!

A typical replacement for Varget would be RL-15.

But, when comparing Varget, XBR and RL-15, there is another powder that almost is identical to Varget, IMR 4320.

This may be available more so than Varget and it matches closer. Even barrel time is VERY close to Varget so minimal re-tuning may be necessary, just maybe an increase in powder of 0.1gn may do it!

Unfortunately I don't have a Berger manual
so , I don't know what's being asserted.

I'm thinking time to pressure, peak pressure, pressure duration
and residual pressure for a given barrel/ bullet/primer/ case combination.
Excluding of course, ambient temperature, humidity, barometric pressure,
elevation or declination of test barrel, bore diameter suitability, and bullet
bearing length.

Other than that, yes they are probably identical.
You shoot first.
