Fine wood is always a pleasure to see and being made into a custom rifle is that much better.

Butch thanks for sharing. Those turtle won't know how lucky they are. :)

Butch as much as I love shooting turtles, " I f'n hate turtles in my bass ponds, you'd do better building a floating turtle trap and running a few wire turtle traps . You never get rid of them but you can keep the numbers down.

I have an excellent turtle trap. My turtles must procreate in a rapid manner. My Grandson took a load of them a couple miles away. They were putting them in another guys pond, didn't want them to die. The property owner caught them and asked what in the hell that they were doing. They said they saw no turtles in his pond and told him that it would help by eliminating his excess brim. The guy chuckled and then told them not to come back. I let some out on the side of the road about 3-400yds from our place. Wish that I had videoed them as they hauled butt backed to my pond.

They lay eggs around April to may, they do it at night/ early morning . If you look around for disturbed grass beaten back down you can find them .
We did a land survey for a turtle farmer once and that's how they harvest the eggs.

Reminds me of my first "hunt". My dad set me up about 30 feet from a "pond" (about 20 feet across) and let me shoot frogs with a 22. One of my earliest and my most warm memories. I can still hear the frogs, feel teh warm air of spring, smell my dad's aftershave and hear the click of the 67 Winchester cocking. That pond (and the "frontier" graveyard from pre-revolution days that was right next to it) are now long gone and if Google is right, there is a house right on that graveyard.

So, a turtle gun it is!

When them turtles run they run like "a herd of turtles in the moonlight" as my buddy's used to say when it was time to get the heck outta a hot call!

Keep us up to date on the build. I want to see that stock go from log to final product.

Well,
If your fishing hole has a bunch a TURTLES, You need a TURTLE rifle. I'll be out mowing around the fishing hole in a little. I ain't that good with my pistol.

And when you clean things up around your pond come on over and have a go at mine......these are the little ones...you might want to bring along a Garand too....

Holy crap!

That's a coonasses wet dream right there

They were caught in one night!!! Two ponds side by side. The fishing was getting kinda bad, I couldn't figure it out. Then I started catching fish with a bite taken out of them. I had no idea there were that many snappers in those ponds. The guy that trapped them said, "just because you aint seein' em, don't mean they aint there!!!!"
Two nights later they half again that many in the same two ponds!
