Starting Load 6brx?

Hey all,
I don't have easy access to a range over 100yds and am shooting an informal match at 300yds in the next few weeks. My fire form loads shot bugholes w/ 105 a-max, 30gr Varget. I was just looking for a load that was inexp. and made good brass and got very fortunate with this load in that it was very accurate. Its putting along at 2790fps while making good sharp shouldered brass (false shoulder, heavily jammed bullet, etc.)
My question is does anyone have a suggestion for a recommendation based on this data and an under max vel. node load w/ either RL15, or pref. Varget and my good old inexpensive Horn 105 A max? My barrel is a Kreiger 28" 1:8 twist. Chambered by Mike Davis.

My BRX loves 33.5grns Varget with smk 107's kissing the lands. CCI 450's

Always start low and work up.

2 of my friends settled at 33.0grns Varget with the same bullet.

32.5 to 33.0 of Varget has served me well through several barrels pushing mollied 105VLD's that were jumping 40 to 80 thousandths in an 8 twist Kreiger.

I'm with Dennis. I got a barrel from him, from McGowen Outlet a month ago and it likes 33.0 grs of Varget with 107gr SMKS .020 tho out of lands. Shoots it into a 1 hole group at 100 yards. Holds X-ring vertical or better at 600 yards in the last Fclass match I shot. Rock and Roll!!

Savageboy,
Mike has done my last wo BRX barrels. All of my BRX's have liked Varget 33.0 to 33.5 gr all running 2975 f/s. With 105 or 108 Berger's

I've been shooting the brx for six years 33.2 RL15 touching the lands 29" bartland 2977out the barrel 450 primers 105 bergers, hyb or VLDS

I chambered up a brx for Bob Sebold and I. Were both shooting cci 450s and 33.3 gr of varget with a 105 hybrid .020 jumped. Bob shot a new fclass 600 yd record with it 200 19x. Mine shot a 1600 120x outa 1600 at the fall fclass match last sept. .1s at 100 and .2s at 200 yds. I would say its a pretty good load. Give it a whirl ;D

I also shoot my BRX with 33.3 gr of Varget and a 105 hybrid jumped .020".

It shot a new fclass record at 500 yards with a 200-18x (4 times in a row) last September.

Work up to that load.

For me anyway, higher loads worked without pressure signs but were compressed.

All the loads listed above are worth noting. But 33.5 is a pretty hot load for a Dasher/BRX -- keep that in mind.

Strongly suggest you start at 32.0 grains of Varget, or Reloder 15 and work up. I know one guy who is shooting 32.8 in a BRX. He can't go anywhere near 33.5!

START LOW and WORK UP. Chron your loads as you work up and watch for ejector marks!

Good advice boss. I shoot Berger 105 vld's pushed by 32.2 varget and 450's for 2950 fps. Any hotter and I get a bolt click.

Thank you all for your input. Looks like starting w/ a decent bullet- I have Berger 108's, Sierra 107's and alot of 105 Horn A max which was my fire forming load w/ 30gr Varget, heavy jam and false shoulder shot amazing and made good sharp shouldered cases (Lapua), and 32gr. Varget should show good results. I was very happy with the fire forming loads accuracy, although this is my 1st 6mmbr caliber- 260AI and 308 prior to the 6brx. Its a very amazing, efficient very accurate round and glad I made the switch to it. The 7mm's will shoot inside of it in the wind but I have had 2 neck surgeries and w/ a 21lb rifle there is no recoil w/ this round and needed less recoil- 3 relays at 30min in prone position is painful. Very happy with it. Now on to BRX load development.

First:

There are variations(burn rate/pressure) between lots of Varget.
VARGET is the goto powder for the 6mmBRX.

Second:

I have chambered over 300 Brx barrels (over the last 6 years) and velocities have varried according to bore diameter, rate of twist, and length. Cut rifle barrels have tended to be slower in velocity with the same loads than Button Barrels.

Bullets of near equal weight and bearing surface length have all shot within 100 fps with equal loads.

I recomend fireforming (Lapua Brass) with 29.5- 30.5 grains of Varget with the bullets jammed .025'-.035". with CCI 450, Remington 7 1/2, or Wolf SRMP.

The 6BRX is not designed to be hot rodded (maxed out velocity), it is designed for accuracy and ecconomy. It can accomplish both.

I prefer hitting the accuracy node between 3020fps and 3080 fps. To achieve this it has required between 32.0 grains and 34.5 grains of Varget. Some shooters prefer the accuracy node between 2950fps and 3000 fps. Both will get you to 1000 yards with a 105-108 grain bullet.

I have experimented a lot with barrel muzzle diameter (.750- .830) and length (28"-33"). For shooting out to 600 yds most prefer 28"-30". For those shooting 1000 yds I beleive there is an advantage to the 31"- 32" barrel.

Currently I am experimenting with a barrel baker with barrels in 4 groove, 5 groove, and 6 groove barrels . Some made with cut rifling and others button rifling, and in some new experimental technolgies.

Don't be surprised if we don't see some new barrel making technologies on the horizon. 100 year old technologies taking a whole new direction.

The 6mmBRX is a great platform because of all the data we have on it.

I prefer the BRX to the Dasher but both are great cartridges and have filled an need in the 600 and 1000 yd shooters arsenal.

Start with 108 Berger's at 31grains of Varget to 32.3 grains. I will bet you will find a load in the 31 grain range....
