Starting cheep. Then adding to, little by little.

I am looking to get a 243 factory win for a walking coyote gun. I would like a 1-8, but that doesn't come factory from anyone yet and I don't understand why. Anyhow, I would like to plan for the worst, and hope for the best. Looking for MOA with my hand loads starting out. 3-400 yard shots. If a person was to start first by buying a cheap model rifle and get lucky, that would be great. But if I have to glass bed, new trigger, new barrel, etc., what model would you suggest. I will be mounting a 4.5-14 leupy on it.
Thanks guys!

700, savage, or even a 788. Never had one that did not shoot great, and even though old school on the 788, the hole in the paper doesn't lie,a nd the animal doesn't know if that bullet came from a $4000 or $400 launcher.

Just re-read the post...skip the 788 if planning on rebarrel etc. 700 or savage...easy stuff to rebuild. Kinda like the 57 Chevy or the 69 camaro...everyone makes parts to hotrod it.

I would think savage would be the way to go as you can change anything on the rifle at home with only a few tools like a barrel wrench and reciver wrench and the appropriate go gage to set the headspace.Keep your eye on how the aftermarket world reats to the remington 783 with their version of the barrel nut.The only thing I dont like about the new remmys is their barrels.Savage's are not much smoother but the two remmys my friend just bought are not too good.

What you DON"T want is one of the new $300 bolt guns that are popping up everywhere. Forget about adding to them, you need a solid platform to start with. Pick up a Savage 110-116 and don't look back. Do not get an Axis or Edge.
