Starline Brass

Just ordered some Starline Brass, 223 Rem, from Midway. At $32 per 100, the downside risk is low. Going to be used for varmint / predator hunting and range practice.

I used their pistol brass in the past and was completely satisfied therefore hopeful that their rifle brass is as good. The reviews seem to be positive for the most part.

Any you guys have experience with it.

Starline makes two different types, one is 223 and the other is designated 556.

I have run a lot of their 556 brass in ARs.

Worked good for me. I had to work on the mouths of the cases before loading. You can get it a little cheaper from starline when it’s in stock the next time you order.

I run it in my .270 Winchester. Five shot groups support that its excellent brass!

I use it very often, the 556 and the 223 versions. I like them both and about all I use for AR’s now, even most of my bolt 223 loads are with Starline now too.

I use a lot of Starline brass in my pistols, my levers, 30-06, 222s and my AR 223s, great brass. If you order directly from them you’ll get the best prices if you order a quantity and they ship free. It’s not Lapua but it’s good brass.

I use it in the 6.5 Grendel with good results. I don’t know if it’ll last like Lapua, but no complaints so far. I mostly shoot pigs with it. They aren’t happy, but I am.

One other thing that’s good to know about Starline. When it shows the brass as being back ordered it usually ships within a month. Only had one order go longer than 4 weeks, just my personal experience

I am shooting 556 starline. It immediately cut my sd\es in half compared to the Fiocchi brass i had collected from factory ammo.

I really like starline brass. Did run into a weird one the other day, had one 223 case that had about 4 grains less capacity. Was loading some up with 24.6 of tac and it filled it the top. Always check powder charge visually on my 550 and it looked odd. Threw a couple more charges all were what I wanted. But only one case out of 300 so not a huge concern but odd.

Do y'all find Starline to be more consistent than LC?

Simply put- Starline is not Lapua or Norma but it's certainly way ahead of others such as RP, Win and definitely LC. It's very consistent. And at the price point that they are on the market for, it's the best option (in my opinion).

Starline is very consistent, more so than LC and Federal etc.
Lapua seems just a bit better but at the price difference it should be.

Starline is working great for my 260AI Hunter. Just finished checking an existing load yesterday and planning to use it in a local 600 yd. match on the 9th. Groups are consistent with my Lapua brass.

Dont bad mouth l.c. brass in front of an old l.c. case area toolsetter. Just kidding.I tried some 44 mag. and the pockets were tight but theyll loosen up. I saw crap dumped on the line at l.c. but hopefully inspection caught it. Doug

Thanks for all the feedback. I am not a benchrest or long-range competitor. If can hit a groundhog or predator at 300 yards or under, I am happy as a clam. *


*Where did that expression originate? How can you tell if a clam if happy or sad?

I use Starline and I like it, but I prefer Lapua. I spot check the case base to shoulder of virgin brass and Starline usually has a lot of variation. I've seen up to .004 difference from the same lot. In contrast, when I check Lapua virgin brass it's rare to see even .0005 of variance.

Not a big deal, but shows the difference in their manufacturing tolerances.

That's good to hear because I haven't had much luck with 1F LC in my gas guns. Regularly I'll have great groups then have certain cases just be way off on velocity/pressure despite as meticulous as I can be short of measuring H2O capacity. I can't justify putting Lapua or Alpha in those rifles when they get beat up so much, but Starline might be what I'm looking for.

Ordered some 30-30 brass listed as "backordered" it arrived at my door 4 days later!
