Starline .223 vs 5.56

Had you been shooting that load at lower air temperatures previous to the problem? I used a stiff load of Reloader 7 in one of my varmint rifles for years - but only shot it in cold weather. Then one day shot it when the temp was 85. Blew a few primers before setting it aside and lowering my charge a few grains. I thought I had worked up to show pressure before backing off when I settled on the original load. Apparently, I didn't do a good job of it.

I'm using the starline 556 brass for a new bolt action long range trainer in a 223 wylde. I bought 200 of them. They are heavier than Lapuas by 3.5g

I'm shooting the 75g ELDMs at 3000 with 24.5g of H4895 from them.

I bought them because I couldn't find any Lapua at first. Was told the case head/web area was thicker and harder, therefor would hold up to high pressure loads better. Well see how they hold up since I'm running them pretty hard in a 28" 223 Wylde. I'd guess around 60K PSI

They are not the equal of Lapua, but you will be fine with most applications. If you plan on training past 600 yards, you may want to weight sort them a little for variation and keep your sets below 3 grains.

BTW, it helps to keep the units as gr for grains. We all know what you mean, but the rookies can get lost.
g = grams
gr = grains
1g = 1 gram = 15.432 grain
3.5g = 54.013 gr

Will do! Oh ya, this is definitely gonna be used past 600 yards. Mainly out to 1K, but I will see how it does out to 1200 and 1400 also.

I did end up locating some lapua from a private party on predator masters. The starline is actually a lot more consistent weight wise. Which surprised me. It's holding .5 grain while lapua had a 1 grain spread. That doesn't tell the internal capacity, but I thought it was quite surprising still since Lapua claims to be the best brass available...And Starline is almost 1/3 the cost.
