Stamping barrels

I had a 3 rifles built last yr, and none of the barrels have any making or stamps on them. He didnt stamp caliber or anything. Now is this a normal practice? They were all built by the same guy.

I had two built this yr and both of them very professional.

Unless they're an 07 and have it in their books as mfg, there's no requirement to indicate the caliber or maker.

Anybody provide this service? Prices?
I have a few barrels I'd like to get roll marked, stamped, etched or,,,? Depending on cost.

If you’ll ask your search engine if a barrel MUST be marked you’ll find that ATF requires it.
I can’t get the file to upload or I would show it here.

I have several rifles that are identical in appearance, if the barrels weren't engraved, it would be very difficult to determine which one I was grabbing. On the other hand my smith does it without me asking.

I can do it but the postage alone would be pretty high. There must be a gunsmith or trophy shop or jeweler near you.

Probably is, hoping someone in my area will chime in. I could and have marked mine before with small number letter punches but I'd like to have a few done better than I can do it. No doubt you could do it better also, yes shipping would deter.

I don’t think it’s a requirement when chambering a barrel. If it were a requirement, how would a gunsmith label the countless, nameless wildcats out there. Every tight neck, ground down and sharpened reamer, (let alone one-off custom reamers) is likely out of spec for the named parent and therefore technically “not” that cartridge anymore.

I use a magic marker on my unmarked barrels. .......and no, I’m not too proud or entering any beauty contests. Practicality is my main focus.
That said, every new barrel is marked by Bob Green for cartridge and neck size. My next ones will be marked with manufacture and throating dimensions. I’m starting to lose track.

I'd like to see every custom barrel marked with chambering, neck diameter, and twist.

For example: 20 Vartarg, 234nk, 1:9
You know it's not a standard 20vt, you know it's setup for heavy bullets, and you can safely reload for it knowing the neck dimension.

Go get a brother label maker, or a magic marker. Every gunsmith that has the capability to chamber a barrel should have the tools to mark them- that being said some do not for liability purposes and some just mark the caliber with no company name. Im thinking of not marking mine from now on actually. If everybody wasnt so quick to fire up a lawsuit we’d be a lot better off.

Be a forward thinker: “This product is dangerous as #ell and can cause severe injury or death!”
