Stainless Tumbling Media a quick product review.

I'd tend to agree that overnight is too much. I tumbled a few batches that long when I first started using SS media... it rounded over the mouths something terrible, and it took some drastic measures to 'fix' those cases. Tumbling 1-2 hours should be plenty for all but the dirtiest stuff. Brass that has been freshly processed i.e. trim/chamfer/deburr/flash-holes/primer-pocket-uniformed is obviously going to have some burrs/shavings that will come loose and show as small flakes in the residue. Brass thats been tumbled once or twice most likely will not.

I ran a batch of fired cases that looked terrible. Been cleaned in corn media with mineral spirits more than once, no improvement. These were cases with burned on carbon, stains, everything you could imagine. Tossed in a couple of old, fired LC Match .308's I had laying around too, just for grins.

After the same two hours as I run my regular brass, the crummy cases looked just as good. Maybe a little bit more residue remaining on the inside, but the outsides were sparkling. The LC were a little dull by comparison but very clean inside and out.

Overnight is overkill with the wet SS media method. Four hours is probably the useful limit. After that you're just wasting electricity & time, maybe doing your brass some harm even if you can't measure it.

If it takes over 2 hours you are probably not adding enough lemmishine or have another problem. After that amount of time even inside the primer pockets should be shiney.

Don't know it as fact but I've heard it just settles out to the bottom. Try it and report back. ;)

As far as a "long" run time, a good pre treatment would really help with the "real nasty stuff". Outside and primer pockets looked "pretty good" (could have been a little better) but the insides of the cases still showed some burned powder. Like I said before, "Real nasty stuff".
