SSK?

I bought a 30-30 Ackley barrel for my Contender. It was an "in stock" barrel and came with a 1-7 twist. Any idea why SSK chose that twist for a 30-30AI? I had originally planned on shooting light bullets but they recommended 150 grain but said it may shoot some of the lighter bullets as well. I just hate buying bullets that don't work. I guess if it shoots 150's good then it really doesn't matter as it will be a deer and hog gun and a paper puncher.

Not sure why they would twist a 30-30AI that fast unless it was a customer order that didn’t get paid for, or they had a blank laying around that they wanted to get out of inventory.

Based on my experience with SSK, I am going to bet that it will shoot light and heavy bullets well as long as you use the right powder.

I looked on their website and they offer a lot of Encore and Contender barrels. It seems their standard twist for the 30-30 AI is a 1-7. Its an 18 inch heavy barrel and threaded for a break or suppressor. My only logical thought is maybe they are playing to the folks that want to run a suppressor. IDK???

I would say they offered a 7 twist to allow for shooting the heaviest 30 cal bullets at subsonic speeds while using a suppressor

Think 200 to 230 subsonics

I don't shoot suppressed. But fire forming cases it shot 110's and 130's and 150's pretty good.
