SR vs LR

Looking to buy some 308W brass and wondering if small or large primers would give the better SD#s
Opinions are welcome.

If your loads are going to be below book max (normal) then go LR. If your loads are going to be up there and spicy use the SR. Usable brass life is better with SR primers and spicy loads.

SR will definitely last longer with hot loads. Unless somewhere really cold SR would be my choice.

In my experience small rifle gives better sd and es when shooting the same components. On 10 shot groups using lapua brass I can get es around 15-20 and sd around 8 with br2 and varget, in small rifle brass I can get es of 9-10 and sd between 2 and 5 with br4 and varget. Groups will look the same at 200 yards but show slightly better at 1000. I maintain a batch of both so I can keep shooting if I run low on one type of primer

If you are going down the precision/accuracy rabbit hole with a good 308 rig, I would recommend having some experience with both kinds of brass.

Tight velocity controls are a deep subject and often the result of a whole system of variables, not just one.

Agree 100%. Testing will always give solid results. In my experience the SRP gives better E S & S D #s across the board.
