SR BR stock basics

I've gone over the SR BR stock rules and regs, looks like to me that 7° from bore centerline is adequate to satisfy the rules. What are the meat and potatoes of SR BR stock dims? I know 3" fore end, thats covered.

I've got an old RF BR stock I've been whittling on for some time (a lazy, near-sighted, one eyed beaver made it originally) just to get straight and I figured i might as well try and make it legal for SR BR centerfire and keep my 6br in it just because I do not want to go down the RF rabbit hole and the opportunity that I have a free weekend during a BR match is greatly improving.

I doubt I'll make LV weight, but I haven't cut the keel yet and I'm going to loose a big chunk of weight there.

Depends on the length/weight your 6BR barrel is.
We tend to run a maximum 24” in a HV profile in a Heavy Varmint ie: 13 1/2 lbs all in. I’ve been using a modified Palma profile with an Ezell tuner and can easily make weight at 10 1/2 lbs at 22” with no loss of accuracy over a straight taper or finish it at 24” with plenty of room for weight to balance.
If you’re using one of your f-class barrels it will be tough to balance and still make 13 1/2 lbs all in.
Bottom line is take as much weight as you can out of the stock, you can always add it later.
Also the angle is based on a longer barrel than we would normally use so keep that in mind.
Come on down the hill and shoot small.
Greg
PS: Steve Epstein just won the LV100 and finished 5th in the 2-gun at the Cactus shooting my “Tuner Profile” Kreiger with Mikes tuner on it.

This 6br is a 24" remage, rem-varmint taper, I used it for midrange and is technically the wife's gun (aka, excuse to build a 6br, lol). It'll make HV weight no problem, but scope is a Sightron SII 36x and It'll be close on LV weight. Stock is curly maple

How does the Tuner Profile differ from the various LV profiles offered?

Morning Jackie,
It is a profile that we came up with that allows a great deal of flexibility when using a Ezell PDT tuner.
It is a 1.200 for 5" then a "Palma" style neck and then a straight taper to .875 @ 26" Makes LV @ 22" no problem, and when you use the full 5" tenon and finish at 24" you get a nice balance point with a weight in the butt. Personally I just slip a 3lb piece of tungsten in the butt of my Leonard and call it good. rarely shoot the dedicated HV anymore. It's a little muzzle heavy in LV configuration but not bad at all.
When we first started down this road we (Steve Epstein my shooting pard and maker of Epstein "Magic Bullets) ordered 6 barrels in this profile (2 each in 13/13.5/14 twist) I chambered them all with my .268 neck reamer and then we did a fairly involved comparison on both our rifles. Conclusion was the 13.50/14 seemed to shoot tighter then the 1-13 (probably bullet weight related) so we settled on 13.75 and have been there ever since. See picture below of one on a LV platform.
Regards,
Greg

Thanks.

Is that a special order item from Krieger.

I have always thought the standard LV profile to be a tad heavy. To make weight with my favorite LV, I can only leave about 1 1/2 inches of straight at 22 inches. That leaves it at just under 5 pounds.

Yes it is, I try to keep some on the shelf, but am currently out with my next order due in @ the first of April. Depending on your tuner weight (Mikes is 7 oz.) it’s not a problem keeping it at or under 80oz. I’ll try and find the exact spec and send it to you.
Mike Ezell and I were discussing a theory that maybe the “hinge” created by the “Palma” style neck was creating a more consistent vibration pattern. They sure seem to tune easily!

Greg

The problem with ordering anything from any of the barrel manufacturers is the wait. I generally buy my barrels from retail outlets that stock them, or from Chris Mackey.

Most only stock the usual profiles, ie LV and HV.

Good morning

I am just starting my research on a short range BR gun and have to ask why not flute the barrel? I have fluted 10+ F class barrels (I have my own shop) that tuned in excellent, meaning sub 0.2.

I hear you there!
I try to stay a year ahead with my orders and usually order 10-12 at a time in assorted configurations. The ones coming in April were ordered last spring! I already have my order in for next years batch, the good thing is they don't go bad sitting on the shelf.

A lot of extra work that is unnecessary if you start with the correct profile. Most people that I chamber for do not want to pay the extra money to have a barrel fluted. This profile gives maximum flexibility to achieve whatever your weight goal is with or without a tuner.
My apologies to the OP for sidetracking this stock thread with all the barrel talk, but it IS a system that must work together.
YMMV,

Same church, different pew, if not mistaken would be to go with a “ Bruno profile”; LV setup. Max OAL at LV with tuner. i believe Pinehardt has a similar tuner profile.
