Squib Load Caution!

I usually don't post videos, but I recently came across a friends .22 barrel that he asked if I would remove a stuck bullet from. After getting the barrel, I noticed several problems.

1) The barrel had several bulges along most of the length.
2) there was a bullet stuck 4" in from the muzzle and 6" in from the breech end!
3) the barrel had a 1/2" bend in it the length of the barrel.

I didn't think much of it other than it was obviously garbage and that was quite a bit of pressure to bend a barrel, but I came back to it several days later to find this!

I don't know if this happened very quickly or slowly, but it goes to show the amount of pressure that is stored inside that barrel. There were obviously several bullets built up inside the barrel, and a bullet along with shards of lead inside the receiver. This was a semi-automatic rifle, so I believe that his saving grace was the gas escaping out of the ejection port instead of trying to work its way around a closed bolt.

Just thought It might be a good reminder to take caution with stuck bullets in the barrel!

I never thought a barrel could retain that energy that long. This was an eye opener.

What ever ammo he was using needs to be reported to the manufacturer, sure the shooter should have noticed the bullets were not hitting the target but there is a report difference with a squib load. But the manufacture of the ammo should be made aware of the situation of squib load, where do many ammo recalls come from, reported problems, the lot number on the box and any remaining ammo from said box and or lot will be needed on the report.

Hate bad ammo and not noticing the bullets were not exiting the barrel ruined a fine firearm. The Remington 552 is my favorite semiauto 22.

once the barrel was plugged some of the bullets were not from squibs to have that much pressure between stuck bullets.

Thank God nobody got hurt. I didn't know a barrel could still contain such high pressure.
