Just had one brought to me for load work chambered in 6.5 PRC. Looks to be a really well built rifle. They use BSF barrels who I contacted a few months back inquiring about them for an upcoming build. The owner was telling me about the new springfields and how they chose him for their barrels. He said they set up 3 identical rifles, using BSF, Proof and Carbon Six and at the end of the day they chose him as their barrel supplier. I don't know what exactly the factors of the testing were but it sounds like Springfield did their homework on the rifles. The actions look very similar to a Bergara with a little bit different bolt shroud. The chamber of the barrels even have the weird cone like the Bergaras do. I am very interested in how it shoots. I will report back when I am able.
I got the waypoint to the range this weekend for a little break in. It seems like it wants to shoot right out of the gate. I loaded up 25 rounds of 143 ELD-Xs under 56.0gr - 57.5gr of H1000 in Lapua brass with CCI #250s for initial sight in and break in. I fired 5 rounds getting the scope centered on paper and then shot four 5 shot groups cleaning in between groups at 100 yards. Groups were fired about 7-8am 90 degrees 30% humidity, wind right to left at about 4-6mph from bench with rear bag. Top left group is is shots 5-10 and worked down, middle left, middle right, bottom left. Orange squares measure 1"x 1". The rifle held pretty much MOA or better, with, in my opinion a bullet that hasn't showed much promise in the accuracy dept. Load development will continue with some Berger 140 VLD hunting bullets seated to mag length which end up being about a 50 thou jump in this particular rifle. The barrel cleaned up very easily and had little to no copper fouling after each 5 shot group.
Yep, its rough around here this time of year. Thankfully though the wind hasn't been too bad. I can put up with a lot, but not the wind. It makes me say bad words.Very good, looks promising thank you for the info.
I have to mention though…….90 degrees at 8am…..nope. I’ll keep my butt in ND and deal with -35 and wind!
