Springer Airgun and TUNER at 50 yards. PICTURES

First attempt at 50 yards with 3 wind flags resulted into back to back less than half inch 5 shot groups. I was shooting my Diana54 in .22 with a tuner I installed last week. The tuner cut my 25 yd indoor groups in half or less. I then moved to a 75 yd 6 inch steel plate. Never missed it and by the 4th shot was center punching it. I never dreamed this level of accuracy could come from a spring gun. Wind was under 5 mph and switching 180 degrees. Both groups where an oval hole. Went home, did not clean the gun and have no brass to reload. Still cleaning my 30BR from this weekend's 200 yard match. I did get the brass annealed but lots of work left. I love my airguns more and more.

I am also interested in your setup. I have been considering getting into air rifle for a while but always spending the money on something else. Off and on I have been looking at a good PCP and compressor setup but hesitating figuring it would set me back a couple or three grand at least.

I just did a search on that Diana 54 and it looks like it would be a great starter gun. From what I have read the spring guns are hard on scopes, what do you recommend? Also what tuner are you using ?

Ok here is some of the first attempt at 50 yd groups. Wind was 5 to 12, I was picking and got caught a few times. Number is the amount of shots, couple of times I got caught and went back and shot a sixth shot. Hope to get s calm day, they are currently non e20230412_180708.jpg20230412_180655.jpg

For a tuner contact Hector Marina at 203 722 5940. You want the 6 screw version. 85.00 plus shipping.

The target on the right was the first attempt, I did not want to click so I was figuring what mildot to hold.

I shoot an Air Arms TX200 in ..177 tuned by John Thomas from Thomasville PA just outside of York. It is scoped with a Hawke Sidewinder 6x24x56 30mm in Sportsmatch rings. Springer AIRGUN guys are very cautious about trigger weights usually liking triggers around 1.5 pounds. I have set min to 4 oz. My Diana 54 has a Sightron Stac 4x20x44 30mm . I am not sure of the mount as it came with the gun I bought used. I had John Thomas tune this rifle also. I was not happy with it until I had John tune it. Searching for even better accuracy I bought the tuner and that was huge. First 5 shots at the optimum setting at 25 yards looked like one pellet. I shoot both guns off a front rest, the one made by Altoona Vo Tech, with a Protector rear Rabbit Ear bag. The TX I shoot free recoil, the 54 with both hands lightly gripping the gun along with light shoulder pressure and no cheek. Trigger on the 54 is a far cry from the TX. It has a long first stage that slides into the second stage I would say 1 pound, but it works. The 54 with it's built in recoil system is easier to shot accurately, less of a learning curve than the 54. I like the TX for indoors but the Dianais .22 is the king outdoors. They respond just like powder burners as far as very sensitive to bullet and velocity. There are nodes. Comparing these rifles to say a CGamo is like racing a Corvette against a Toro lawn tractor.

Jeff,

Great write up. Cool concept of a tuner on an air rifle. Who would have thought! We need some pics of your toys if possible !

Thanks, Paul
