Spotting scopes???

Looking for a spotting scope and don't have a clue about them,so let me hear the good on what you folks have.I don't mind spending $1500-2000 for one.I will be using it for f/tr,practice and will get a mill reticle for my other shooting hobby thanks.

KOWA with a long eye relief eye piece. An older TSN1 KOWA can be a good find and the newer models are superb scopes.

Looking at the Kowa 883,cabelas Euro-HD,and the Razor HD.I know whatever I buy I want to be able to put a mil reticle on it and that's where I get lost.

Probably have to go with a Leupold Mark 4 Spotting scope if you want good glass, decent magnification, AND an milling reticle.

I think you can get the Mark 4 in 12-40x60mm or 20-60x80mm. Straight eyepieces. Not sure of there are any tactical spotters with angled eyepieces...

Bushnell Elite makes some spotters with reticles too. But that's about your limit if you want a reticle with good glass

This is the info I was looking for,do you think the mk4,would be better than the vortex razor?

Mmmm....Glass would be hard to tell apart. Razor would probably get the edge because they offer slightly larger objectives on their spotters. Vortex Razor offers 65mm and 85mm where Leupold Mark 4s are 60mm and 80mm. However, the Razor only offers a 30X wide angle eyepiece with a ranging reticle, so you would be sacrificing magnification power. But a wide angle view is really nice. So just depends on how much magnification you want.

I personally would buy the Razor 20-60x85mm in an angled set up along with the 30X WA ranging eyepiece. Then youd still probably pay less than the 20-60x80mm Mark 4 by itself. Eyepieces swap out really fast and easy. Another nice thing is that Razor spotters can use Swarovski HD eyepieces. So if you really want a nice scope, you can buy the Swarovski 20-50X wide angle eyepiece later on. Plus Vortex has one of the best warranties in the business. Second to none.

Another little bit of info to maybe help your decision.

I have had Leupold Golden Ring binoculars (best binos Leupold makes) and also Vortex Razor binoculars in the past and if I was forced to go back to owning one of those two, I would definitely buy the Razors. In binocular format, the Razor glass was much better

Falcon menace cost about twice as much as a scope made in China called "Famous Maker" that is built with the same parts for around $150.

I hated the angled eyepices. The straight ones are much more ergonomic unless you mount it lower than the shooting position or have to stand up or croon over to look. YMMV

Then you don't have the right tripod or 'know-how' to us an angled scope from the prone position.

Off a bench, not prone. Yeah I probably don't know what I'm doing. Op didn't mention shooting prone. YMMV
Will be prone, and sitting, standing positions. No bench shooting for me I'm still young . Thanks leadslinger will be going with the razor.

Prone , off the bench , and any other situation the angled when used by someone who knows how to set it up and operate it is much more ergonomic. When on the bench the spotter is to my left and all I do is turn my head about 45* and move my neck forward a couple of inches. My shoulder never leaves the rifle. To use a straight scope you must come from behind the rifle and line yourself up with the target from behind the scope.
I believe the Nightforce spotter made by Meopta has a reticle and is a top of the line scope. I had one beside my Meopta S2 and couldn't see any difference. IMO the Meopta is beat optically only by the Swarovski ATX. I had a Meopta S2 that I sold and bought a Swarovski ATS 80 HD to save a half pound but the glass in the S2 was better and I miss it sometimes but not when climbing a mountain with it in my pack :).

ive got the razor hd 20-60 I'm not to impressed by it. I was hoping to see 6.5 holes at 500 yards which I realize conditions have to be really perfect for. anyway my weaver t-36 sees bullet holes just as good I swear.
ive looked through much cheaper scopes I swear have better views.
you can buy a straight 30x milling eyepiece for it. I think around 230$
someday ill sell this and spring for a kowa or pentax.
you don't always have to have your angled scope pointing up...

I just picked up one of the angled Meopta's and am trying to decide on a tripod. What would you recommend?

There's a lot of good tripods out there, but I personally really like the carbon fiber Manfrotto tripods. You can get them with horizontal column capability. Excellent quality sure to last a lifetime.

Buying a high quality tripod is every bit as important as spending your hard earned money on good glass. A top quality head for the tripod is a must as well if you plan on using it for hunting, bird watching, or those types of things. If the glass isn't stable when stationary or smooth when panning, it's not going to be very effective at giving you a quality image. Keep in mind that tripod heads have load ratings just like the tripods do.

Here's a link to the one I bought for my Cabelas Instinct Euro HD scope (aka: Meopta S2 HD 20-70). The link has photos as well as a short video so you can see how it works.

So far, I really like it. My biggest challenge has been my current Manfrotto tripod which is just not sturdy enough, especially if there is very much wind. I finally found a mount for digiscoping with my phone which has been a big part of my plan for the scope.

To me, it seems like that would make it that much quicker and easier to see hits on the target, looking at the screen on my iPhone 6 Plus without having to leaving the stock versus setting the scope up close but still having to move around. I've also seen a few videos that people have done using their phone to video a hunt or to film a shot and many of them are surprisingly good.
