Spotting Scopes,How much magnification to see rock chucks at 1000 yards?

How much magnification do i need at 1000 yards to see a target the size of a rock chuck????

Is 60 power enough????

Everything I've heard and read about spotting scopes has told me the most important thing is the quality of the glass. The better/higher end spotting scopes have clearer images with less power. I have a cheap 70x and can barely see bullet holes at 300yds but I've looked through some high end 20x spotting scopes and you can see great at any range from 300 to 1000yds. You get what you pay for.

I never use spotting scopes for rock chucks. I carry 10X42 Leica Range Finders and this is all you need. Clarity is the answer and not the power. I rarely use my scope on much more than 11 power. The higher the power the more the mirage.
