SPOTTING SCOPE

NEED ADVISE ON PURCHASING SPOTTING SCOPE-WHICH WOULD BEST FOR RANGE USE-LEICA 20X60X77MM OR KOWA 88mm 25X LER SPOTTING SCOPE?

One of the main things you'll want for range use is a high magnification range, the Kowa is a great scope but I would not want to use a fixed 25X eyepiece. Both scopes are top of the line as long as they are both equipped with the 20-60X eyepiece, you really can't go wrong with ether one.

Each eye piece that you mentioned has advantages and disadvantages.

The straight 25X eyepiece is really good for reading mirage and has a large enough field of view to see other shooters targets if you are into HP or LR prone shooting. Those are good characteristics.

The 20-60x eyepieces have a tendency to loose that sharp/crisp definition at the higher power settings. Mirage on hot days really reduces their effectiveness as well. Field of view shrinks at the high power setting.

So it depends what sort of application you have for the scope.

Depending on your application, a fixed 25x eyepiece may be OK. If you shoot with a rifle scope of higher power, I see no sense in that limit on a fixed power spotter. I have a Leica 20-60x spotter. It does help some with mirage, but if conditions are poor will seldom show bullet holes past 300 yds.

as stated before it depends on what you will be useing the scope for. watching mirage in matches 25X LER better. looking for bullet holes var.X better... my$.02
