Depends on what you are using it for... for highpower, it's hard to beat the Kowa with the 25x LER ocular. Being able to get onto my scope quickly without shifting my position is my highest priority. The Kowa 25x LER has 30mm eye relief; almost double that of most 20-60x oculars. For highpower, seeing bullet holes in the black beyond 200 yards is almost impossible, regardless of what scope you are using, and typically unnecessary. Slow fire is scored and marked every shot and looking for holes after mag changes in the rapids is very tough (depending on the light and the berm). Not having to struggle to get my eye close to the ocular while watching mirage or checking a score is a real advantage.... I think that Vortex is making a Razor spotting scope with an LER ocular; now that could be interesting. My 2 cents.

Like MGX said, it really depends on what you are using it for. I can't speak to the Kowa but this past Sunday I tested a Leica and Zeiss in the power range you are refering to and they both performed great. Was able to see 6mm bullet holes in the white at 600yds with both scopes (no mirage). The Leica's resolution was slightly better but both scopes performed better than I though they would.

Give chris a call at sport optics, they know em all. talk to him about the meopta (they got a lot of good reviews for the money)with the I-phone adapter. if trying to figure out mirage-wind reading a good tool to set up Iphone and video your shots, heck of a lot more clear than my eye. Bill

IMO, and borne out by a few reviews from credible optics authorities, the Swarsovski ATS80HD is at the top of the heap in spotters. It is superb. I'm happy to be selling mine to somebody will use it rather than just keeping it in the closet as I have for the past year or so.

when I was scope shopping I had the chance to use the Lieca 77mm at the range. Great scope, but so bright I found it hurt my eyes! Very low if any mirage at 12 noon on a cloudless day. Not in the same class with a Swarovski. I ended up with an 82mm Kowa and the 27x eyepiece. I didn't buy the flourite lense option as I was never going to take photos thru it. What sold me was the resolution it had. I can pick out the burr on a pull pin in the center of a pop rivit at 375 yards without much trouble. Have never used it at very long distance (700+ yards), so I can't comment on that. The downside of the Kowa is that it's a little heavy and you really need a good solid stand for it. Where as the Lieca is much lighter in weight. The only scope I found better than the Kowa was the Swarovski at 2.5 times the price.

The other day, I was at 600 yards and my Lica 77 set at 20X, I could see the bullet holes clearly.
