Splody Factor V Max verses Blitzking

I have shot both side by side for years and the consensus in my family (3 shooters) is that the 50 Gr BK produced better accuracy and better splat factor/airtime than the 50 Gr Vmax, by a slight but consistent margin. 25 years worth of experience 50,000+ dead prairie dogs

Awesome!!

Has anyone tried the 50 grain Blitz?
.

We shot 1000's of them. This was before plastic tipped bullets. The Blitz was and most likely still is very accurate, and weren't very expensive. Nicely explosive bullet, nothing wrong with those things.

I will say based on experience (lots of experience) the 70 gr blitz king in 6 br absolutely is a “meat fan” on steroids. A 50 gr vmax from a 22-250 is slightly under that. Just slightly. The 250 sounds better, and has less recoil and is my personal favorite. That’s just my opinion. I’d say whatever your rifle likes, feed it. Pdogs don’t have any regulations or preferences on what booolet you use. So put some extreme propellant behind your choice of projectiles and enjoy the visuals.
AND BTW: THE OP's TOPIC IS ABOUT VMAX's and BLITZ KINGS AND PRAIRE DOGS...
NOT GROUND SQUIRRELS!

Splat factor will change depending if it is a center hit or not. So will the elavation.
I like them to be laying flat on the mound looking at me, hit under the chin seems to give good lift, lol.

I tend to agree with the twist idea. Same caliber rifles and load, the 9 twist factory Savage seemed to give more laughs.
I have high hopes for my 8 twist 6TCU and 55’s.

Seriously? Why is that so important to you?

I was clear that my experience was in ground squirrels because they are smaller than prairie dogs. I know that the OP is smart enough to determine which information is important and which isn't.

All of us are here to have fun. You gotta give a little grace.

I am actually smart enough to make that determination. Feel free to continue to share your experiences on ground squirrels as I feel that that is germane to the conversation

Pennsytucky guy here ... my only experiences are with woodchucks/groundhogs.

40 gr barnes varminators out of a 22-250
40 grain Sierra Hornets out of 22 hornet.
55 nos max 223 rem
58 or 87 vnax out of 243 win.

Wish I could shoot some prairie dogs...

BK vs Vmax.
Kinda like this, if I have one or two friends over, we will have steak. If there are car loads of people,it will be hamburgers.

I run the vmax because of price point and very acceptable accuracy,= hamburgers.

My experience has been the opposite. Please understand that I’m not arguing or questioning your experience. I do think that either bullet will produce great results.

Two of us did an experiment some years back to determine which was the most explosive on ground squirrels, taking to account differnt angles with various distances. We loaded each bullet, 250 each. We would shoot the entire 250 to take into account all factors, then go to the next bullet.

22/250 loaded with the same powder charge, same brass, same primers. 50g sierra blitz kings and 50g V max.

Hands down winner......Blitz King...no comparison.

Also, Blitz kings cost a tad more due to the Match grade jackets that are used.

Then you have to see what bullet your rifle shoots best. 50 and 55g Vmax are both very accurate bullets, usually.

“Specifically 50 grain on pdogs.”
I guess rats and praire dogs are the same.Did not not know that. Thanks for the lesson!
I guess Subject matter and content are just up to ones imagination or whatever fits. Good to know. Thanks guys.

I’ve used many of the bullets pictured. The undisputed king of explodiness, however, isn’t any of these. It’s the Barnes Varmint Grenade!

  1. For 50 grain bullets specifically - Ten "gazillion" ground squirrels (the larger So. Cal version) say 50 grain Varmint Grenade best splat and flying body parts. Second - Speer TNT, third V-Max (lead-free), fourth V-Max (leaded) and fifth Blitz King. For accuracy - Blitz King #1, V-Max #2 (both leaded and not) and Varmint Grenade real close - then TNT. The Bergers are super accurate but not good splat - same with Noslers, though they have a bit better splat. I shoot mostly the 50 V-Max, Varmint Grenade and the Blitz Kings. Seriously - nothing comes close in splatter to the Varmint Grenade. When the squirrels are laying on their stomachs and you shoot them low in the stomach - they launch 8 feet into the air. We've recovered large body parts 27 feet apart from the same squirrel.

I tried som BK 55 grain in my 6br ramped them up to around 3600 was expecting a good show. I was let down. Sold the balance on here when I got back

What twist and barrel length are you shooting? Assuming it's in .223.

Personally, I would take this in a slightly different direction that others have already hit on: accuracy, and its effect on shot placement.

All of the bullets mentioned will splatter a dog. but the shot placement is critical. if you have a perpendicular shot and hit them in the boiler room chances are your going to break them in half, or if your lucky, you will get a helicopter. the best possible splatter shot is all four feet on the ground - head on, or a texas heart shot. if you have a really accurate rifle/bullet combo and can make use of it, that is going to make more of a difference on end-result than V-max -vs- Nosler. hitting the exact *dead center* of the butt end of a PD really makes a difference in performance. just 1/2" either side of center changes things dramatically.

my all time splatter favorite for PD: 110g V-max, 308W loaded to stupid pressure levels = pink mushroom clouds.

TLDR: find the most accurate bullet in your gun, and load up 1000 of them.

That definitely wasn’t my experience with 55 SBKs out of my 12 Twist 6 BRA. The only complaint I had on the 55s was the extra velocity didn’t allow them to keep up with the BC of the 70 SBKs past about 300 yards. Both were very accurate and very destructive.
