speed meter

i will like to buy a speed meter so i can play with it.


i found one but don't know if this is a good product.

What are you using ?

I have had these types in the past. These types are relatively hard to set up because you have to make sure the "V" shaped tunnel is directly in front of fly path of the bullet. There is a good chance that the unit will get hit with a bullet. I have had them (not your model) in the past and eventually I clipped one of the rods.

Anyway, My suggestion, spend some more and get the Magneeto Speed V3. You can find them used but in really good shape here on this site for about $275 to $300.

@Chiquita is right. The amount of work to get everything just right without damage will soon discourage you from using such a chronograph. I have destroyed two similar units in the past - one when testing a rifle for a friend only to find that the front scope mount was loose making me shoot too low and the other happened when a make-shift shooting bench collapsed just as I pulled the trigger on a .45-70. I got so paranoid about using such a unit that I seldom used it. I now have a Magnetospeed and love it. Yes, it can cause groups to vary because it's strapped to the barrel, but I don't try to shoot groups while it is attached. Why worry about groups at the range when you aren't going to have it strapped to the barrel in the field? I only use it to clock speeds once I have a load that shoots the way I want it to.

I don't like the style pictured either. If you go to a range they can be an especially big pain having to set them up in front of the firing line.
I haven't used a magnetospeed but love the labradar. There is a lot of info here discussing the pros and cons of each.

i see a photo where they test the Ohler 35 using a laser to aim in the triangle, i have one and maybe go for it and try the laser thing.

this is to use in a sand pit. The shooting range i go dont accept nothing in front the firing line.

I can upgrage after some experience with this kind of products.

I think the magnetospeed is the best invention of the decade. The cheap no frill version is all you need. Find your node first and then strap it on and fire off some more to find out the velocity ( spread). But if you want to check sd and es with degree of confidence then you need to waste ammo as it will not let you shoot precise when installed. That's the only downfall to it.

That said, a lot of people use them and get results. Good or bad, I don't know, but they are results.

Sight in on a target and pull your bolt. Set the chronograph 8-10 feet in front of the muzzle. Looking through the bore center the chronograph. You won’t shoot the unit and your good to go. I assume you have a front and rear rest.

I have an old Oehler 33, still works great. Sensors on a 5 ft long pipe to line up. I tape a piece of paper on the upright rods that hold the sun screens. Tape or hold a cheap laser pen to the barrel. Then you can see the exact path of the bullet. I adjust the barrel ht. so the bullet travels about 3" above the sensors. Hardly ever use it any more it's a pain in the ass to setup.

I've seen some amazing setups at the range with shooters using Chrony type or MagnetoSpeed type. If you are having trouble setting up one it would seem to me you will have trouble setting up the other! I've yet to shoot up my Chrony or shoot up my MagnetoSpeed, but seen many that have or will.

A few months back a shooter avoided a disaster. He used the bore rod guide to assure he had the MagnetSpeed aligned properly for the bullet path. He loaded a magazine, closed the bolt on a round and was lining up on the scope when I caught it in time before he pressed the trigger. He had neglected to remove the bore guide from the bore. He couldn't see it from behind the rifle, fortunately I did and got to him in time.
