Southbend lathe

I have an atlas 12x36 that had a 3/4 inch bore . I drilled it and reamed it to 1 inch . I just profile my barrels to work with what I have.

Good little lathes. I had one in the shop I used mainly for
pistol barrels. First thing I would do is ditch that wooden
table and mount it to a steel frame. Mine was mounted
to an original cast iron frame. Custom gunsmiths Martin Zuck
And Emil Gorenflo used these with, out-board buck chucks
to chamber quality bench barrels.

My first Southie looked just like that. Didn't know any better at the time 50 years ago. Sold it and got a 10K
later on, with QC Gearbox. Nice little machine. Got my current Heavy 10 in 1976. Great machine. Then I got spoiled when I got a Hardinge HLV-H. Super accurate!

ah ,those were the days . made a lot of parts on a little SB like that one . the one i used was 36" between centers and it worked great .
