Sooting Mats

How about some opinions on best shooting mat for the money. I'm interested in durability, comfort and functionality. Thanks in advance for the replies!

The best mat for the money is a moving blanket that falls off of a moving truck. But if you want something that is actually made for shooting off of midwayusa has a mat they put on sale all the time for 45-50 bucks that is really worth the money. Its the only mat I have ever paid money for and it didn't disappoint.

When I first started shooting Highpower matches in 2007, I bought the Dillon Precision mat from a local gun store because it was available and I needed one. Cost me $45, if I recall. I have used it for 5 full seasons and well in excess of 100 matches plus practice, etc in widely varying weather conditions, and it is still perfectly sound. A little faded and dirty, but all of the rubber is still in place and in good shape and the bottom is still waterproof. I don't know who makes these for Dillon, but they make them tough. I couldn't ask for any more out of a mat and I'll buy another on if this one ever wears out. Don't know if it will.

Good luck,
Erik

Look at Creedmore and Champions Choice. As Erik said, the bottom should be waterproof, and it should have sticky rubber pads to hold your elbows, arms, and knees in position, and not have them shift measurably under recoil. If your arms & elbows shift, you have to find you NPA all over for each shot which then breaks your concentration, and costs you time. IMHO.

Having been an active HP competitor since 1989, I have used several different mats and purchased three.

If you are just focused on cost, the Midway mat is OK for the money. It doesn't provide much protection for your elbows and is a dark color (that means it will get hot in the summer). Don't know how water proof the underside is, haven't used it enough in wet conditions. It is an inexpensive mat and you get what you pay for.

Have used a Creedmore mat for many years. Excellent mat, back is water proof and the rubber will last a long time. Drawback is that in the hottest weather, the black rubber gets very hot and can be uncomfortable to lay on.

You want the ultimate in holding your position, cushion for your elbows (sometimes you will shoot off of concrete), and cool temps, spend the money and get the Creedmore mat with water proof backing, extra padding and the white rubber. It will be the best money you ever spent and will last you for many years of shooting.

You won't buy it for $50, but you will get your money's worth out of it, guaranteed.

My wife has the hot pink Creedmore with white rubber and extar padding. I have a couple standard Creedmores and built another one last year in Air Force camo with white rubber for prairie dogs and also use it for F-Class when you don't need a coat. The white rubber and extra padding are great!
